Sausage, grits, eggs, biscuits. Maybe some hash browns and bacon too.

And bigpaul, this is what I mean by biscuit :p:

that looks like what we call a scone.

Same type of bread as scones, but the scones here are usually slightly sweet and somewhat hard. Biscuits are soft and not sweet, although they do have a bit of sugar.

My grandmother's biscuits were so good, my mother got worried I ate too many when visiting, so she told my grandmother I could only have one biscuit. So my grandmother made ONE BISCUIT for me the size of a large hamburger bun. ROFL

Several years ago the wife and I visited my hillbilly relatives in Tennessee. My cousin made something she called Catheads and red-eye gravy. It looked like a big biscuit. I remember it was really good.

Cathead biscuits are baked touching each other. This makes them rise higher and makes the sides real soft. Sometimes seven or eight are baked in an iron skillet - one in the middle and six or seven around the outside. It comes out looking like one giant biscuit, but they can be pulled apart into the individual biscuits.

Yep. That's them. Looks like they could be made in a Dutch oven in hot coals too.

I’m not a grit fan either. Want to be, as they seem a healthy alternative to bacon and greasy potatoes, but just really don’t think the taste is very good. Just bland. I did have a bite of some shrimp and grits that had a spicy red sauce mixed with it and it was pretty good. I may order it next time I go to that restaurant.

Grits on their own are a bit bland. But a little butter, salt and cheese and they are great. (Not so much a HEALTHY alternative at that point, though.)

I don’t know if I have tried any that weren’t instant or not. I do my best to avoid salt mostly, but the egg and hot sauce, and maybe even pepper, sounds good. My wife has ordered grits many times and they weren’t very good to me, even loaded with salt, butter and cheese. Of course we are talking chain restaurants, and I’m certain they were instant grits.

there are no restaurants around here, I would have to go a long way if I wanted to eat out and the journey would probably take longer than the meal. but I prefer home cooked meals and that is the joy of where I live, fresh ingredients are in plentiful supply and easily obtained.
