England is very different we always get prolonged droughts in the SE but they are nothing compared with what you chaps get, AND we also have a national grid of rivers, canals, pipelines etc so we can move huge amounts of water around the country. Even in the worst drought we ever had back in 1976 the worst case scenario was the car washes were ordered to close and people told to water there garden with cans not hoses.
I don't need an excuse to not wash my car. :)

I just heard a story from california where the fish won, and the court told a town to stop taking water from the river, but gave no other options for them. we have too many lawyers in this country.
Ahaaa you obviously have the same Greens we do, ours in this run up to the general election are campaigning for HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION for........................................ Dolphins and Whales !o_O

that be true I have family that live there we have the dams and system to do that but over the years the fish lovers won stopping the state from building dam last dam to be finished was new molonys not spelled right the albern dam not finished but the simple fact of the farmer using all the water is simply not the truth they use bout 40 to 45 percent and all the canals to most part dump back to the rivers the fish are giving the la time put out false report bout who uses the most the water given to the fish is in the trillions of gallons list of lakes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lakes_in_California

and we have the greenies like you have and use the courts and the news to their advantage very well

8 fascinating images explain California’s dangerous drought

California has entered its fourth year of a historic drought, and residents and businesses are desperately trying to slash their water use to meet new mandatory restrictions. Here are eight fascinating graphics that explain some of the forces behind the epic drought.

you forgot the fish
and most of the canals dump back into the rivers there fact are not including that animal peeps claim that solar and wind power kills bird just saying what they claim the farmers went to trees from row crops witch takes more water than the trees have to go back and say the dams were built for water supplies and feeding people look up where there saying there trying to save the fish say the salmon near red bluff that is not were they really spawn and they are using water flow and that always will fail and egg is a egg its temperature I live here going threw it been here all my life and the left here is really good at the bs campaign I can show all the graph's streams that were closes in favor of big cities dams some of the streams that were closed filled the lake were I am

i can hardly wait for the folks start heading elsewhere,(so to speak)when the rationing of water gets below their happy leavel..mainly when it comes to the water wasters.folks will head out in herds when it finally gets bad enough..there's some where around 3.38 million people in california..now i cant help but wonder, what will happen once they do start heading for other states when there's not enough water for everyone...and will the 3 power grids hold up to that?and what kind of effect will it have on everyone else, and the rest of the country?..

Hopefully only the conservatives leave the state, the california liberals made a mess out of king county here helping to turn our state blue, on another note (like the 80s failed attemp) cali was wanting to tap the mighty columbia river here in oregon and washington and now there is some big shot actor pushing this idea *cough Shatner *cough, the bastard ought to stick to his movie scripts!

Most people in big cities think no problem here get ready they will panic when it happen s I've got water stored not enough to go a year with out hauling.it in

that reminds me.i do need to stock up on more store bought.and build a rain catchment system.i did see a set-up for water storage, once.when it comes to the 55 gallon barrels, and a wooden frame.in which the water drain from the ones on top.to the ones on the bottom.

here's a similar idea to what im talking about..but they took things much further..

We use more now but when we were living on the road we averaged 10 litres per day for two people, no showers though (just "sparrow washes"), normal laundry but not large bedding, no food growing and no animals.

If you aren't growing food/livestock it should be easy for two people to live on say 20 litres (4-5 gals?) per day.
