With unusually high rainfall in May and June, the second-highest level of precipitation during that period in the past 108 years, trailing only 1983, Lake Mead water levels were boosted thereby averting a possible water emergency that would have triggered cuts in water allocations next year. Officials had warned as recently as June that there was a 33 percent chance of a “Tier 1” water shortage in 2016, which occurs when the water level in Lake Mead drops below an elevation of 1,075 feet. A Tier 1 declaration would result in a cut of 320,000 acre-feet to Arizona’s share of Colorado River water, about an 11 percent reduction. In August the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) reported that there would not be an emergency declaration. Lake Mead’s elevation was at 1,078.24 feet at the end of August. In addition to dropping the chances of a Tier 1 declaration to zero for 2016, the BOR lowered predictions for 2017 from the 75 percent chance it was looking at this summer to just 18 percent in the latest report. While the findings are good news for all seven states in the Colorado River basin, the drought is definitely not over but this will buy time to find more collaborative solutions.

yeah.thats definitely something to worry about.big time.now im wondering,who'll leave,and who'll stay

I know I would be looking for a more sustainable place to live now, before it gets desperate.
Me too. But most people will sit around and wait for the government to come and save them. My family is too important to put my faith in anyone else. My BOL is in a semi arid location at a high elevation, it has a good producing deep well, several springs, large pond and a good flowing trout stream. If they all dry up there is a large river within a days walking distance away.

Population, 2014 estimate 38,802,500 living in california.the water supply has diminished a great deal over the years, since hover damn has been built and lake mead filled up.and to top it off,the population is still growing.and they still haven't taken the needed steps to replace the above ground water supply.
California’s Drought Is Part of a Much Bigger Water Crisis. Here’s What You Need to Know

because of the above info.i have to say.that california is gonna go belly up..in which millions of people will be leaving cali for other states, and in hope that they can find some place else to live.now do the math on what will take place when that happens.that dont paint a pretty picture to me..

Really interesting, and scary, article. I'm sure we will see worsening effects from this in our lifetimes, but it's our children who will have the full brunt of it.

Damage from sinking land costing California billions
DOS PALOS, Calif. — A canal that delivers vital water supplies from Northern California to Southern California is sinking in places. So are stretches of a riverbed undergoing historic restoration. On farms, well casings pop up like mushrooms as the ground around them drops.

I saw the same story. Scary stuff! I had seen a while back clips about it sinking an inch a year or so, but sinking a foot in a year is downright crazy.

Wow. I guess the old rumors of California sliding off & sinking into the ocean are true after all! Sounds like it's on the way down now! :)
