I currently have plastic jugs of water stored in milk crates. I am looking for a better alternative to long term water storage in my urban area.

I found this http://bluecanwater.com/
Has anyone tried this? What are your thoughts?

I did see a review from the Urban Prepper you YouTube. It seemed favorable, but I was just curious if anyone else had tried it.

Actually not a new idea...Several cases of canned water came with the house. I guess the previous owner was some sort of closet prepper? They were in a small storage area under the stairs. They are probably reaching their 50 year shelf life, LOL.

The outsides of the cans are rusting, but inside is not. The water tastes a little funky, but is drinkable.

Civil Defense used them as part of its Civil Defense rations in the 50s and 60s. I wouldn't purchase canned water today.. too expensive for what one gets. I would use something along the lines of the Aqua-Tainers and rotate the water out every year or the 55gal blue barrels and rotate the water out every 5~6 years.

I think having some water on hand for a few days at best is all that’s needed. Having three good options on filtration is much more important to me. I am lucky to have two reasonably clean creeks and a well on the property here, but if I lived somewhere where water was scarce I would begin making plans to move to a better, more sustainable location. The value of water cannot be underestimated.

There is water just about every where but most people do not know where to find it, if it is not flowing from their faucet. The fact that most believe that water is scarce in my local, makes it the perfect place in a SHTF event. Everybody will be leaving and you never hear anybody say "When it hit the fan, I am headed for the desert". Assets and solitude, what more can a man ask for?

Good point brought up here, wherever you are but espechially in an arid environment, learn where water sources are. Consider how to make systems that can collect water in the environment you are in too. Of course there are simple things like draining pipes that held water, or hot water tanks, etc. but put some thought into how to find water in an emergency before you’re actually in one.

When I am filling a canner with vegetables, if I have room, I fill it with quarts of water.

I keep the sterilized water for wounds drinking etc. The draw back is that they are in glass jars and could not be easily transported in case of bug out.
I like that idea, very efficient. I wouldn’t waste the effort on canning water alone, but have had many batches that had wasted extra room.
