i had seen some 1/2 gallon canning jars at the wal-mart i shop at one day, when i was getting some canning supplies.and noticed the price.some where between $9.00 and $12.00 dollars each.then i moved on.on account the only reason i thought of,for me to have any.is for dry foods.in which i didn't have enough dry foods to make it worth buying one at the time.guess i should of at least started stocking up on them any how.now i've heard of ppl that has actually used them for canning meats and other foods.

has anyone here used the 1/2 gallon canning jars for anything?and if so,for what?

My parents used 1/2 gallon jars for pickels and hot peppers.

I've never even seen them, but like the idea. I agree, dry goods would be my first inclination. I'd get some if I come across them.

I received a case for my birthday this year, but have yet to use them. It is only 6 1/2 gallons to a case so it is high priced when compared to getting 12 quarts at around $8-$9 when on sell. Since it is only hunny and I at home now, depending on what it is I am canning, either the quart or pint is as much as we will eat at a time and for now I have enough food grade buckets to use for my dry goods. It did cross my mine to maybe do some Big Dill pickles since a couple kids like them so much. As time goes on, I maybe changing my mind on them.

No point. Cheaper to just use MORE smaller ones. I guess I could see it for pickles, but that's really about it. (and then, just cheaper to BUY the damn pickles...)

well.today i bought 2 cases of regular mouth 1 pint jars..some ham and pork-n-beans for beans n ham..mom loves the day light out of beans n spam..so i'll be seeing if i can go with that as well..
