Sooooo I just realized that I need to prep incase of a nuclear incident. I recently moved and just checked the map. If someone drops "Tsar Bomba" close to the border between Russia and Norway, I'm in the 3rd degree zone. F... me sideways.

So has anyone prepped for this and do you have any tips? I've calculated a minimum of 30min evac time from our home and out of the 3rd degree zone. I intend to get this further down, but atm I can't say anything for sure.

a quick evac is essential, let's just hope that maniac don't use nukes, but distance is your best friend..
check your map for some high value targets and draw a circle around them, should give a good pic where to go and how far.

do you now have a partner in preps??

Well, my boyfriend is in on the whole "I want a bombshelter" gig I've got going. My fear of war and nukes in the other hand.... not so much.

My friends are scattered across country, so I have evac opportunities if needed.

Will get one of those good old paper maps and start drawing

Not sure if we've actually done much in the way of 'prepping' for it, but I have spent a lot of time thinking about it & making some plans. The tough part for us is the wind. We get a lot of big winds here and while there's not much in the way of primary or secondary targets very close to us, the wind could bring us a lot of fallout particles from a LONG WAY off. It winds up being a complete crap-shoot for knowing which way we would need to go to get away from it. Fortunately, we have an underground shelter (an old milk truck encased in concrete...but not as much as I'd like) that we could get in for protection. I could dump a bunch of dirt on top of it to provide more shielding if I ever thought a nuclear strike looked imminent or even likely.

i don't actually believe in Nuclear war, not from the normal countries anyway, maybe North Korea and Iran but not Russia or the US.
I was under the impression that warheads are must smaller these days than back in the cold war and that the targeting systems are more accurate, so unless your right next to the target area you'll probably have at least a chance of survival, blast area and fallout wind direction not withstanding.

I think the best plan, if you're not close to a direct blast is to at least stay indoors with everything closed up as tight as you can make it. If you can stay out of the open air for three weeks or so and lucky enough to get some rain it would hopefully dilute the worst effects some. Short of having an unlimited budget to prepare for nukes, that is probably the best an average person is going to be able to do.

I don't believe that we'll see a nuclear war in our lifetime, at least not between the US and Russia. But what I do expect to see in our lifetime is some muzlim POS setting off a suitcase dirty bomb (probably got it from N Korea or Iran). And he won't be targeting any strategic site either, but rather a highly populated area. Someplace where he can get the highest body count. I also believe that he's already here, invited in as a "refuge" or he came across our open southern border. They're just waiting for the right time.
