My cukes and tomatoes are now looking pretty sad looking, and I will be pulling them very soon. Planning on replacing then with more beans cause they tend to love the heat. So waiting the cooler September months to add in my Fall crop

I have room now, so guess I'll plant some beans as well. I still have loads of green beans from last year canned, but may try drying out some shelled beans. I'm about to till most of the greenhouse down too. We just went straight from winter to summer this year.

I still haven't canned up my green beans cause there has just been no time but they have been blanched and ready to go in the freezer. I am still canning the last of my tomatoes and cukes mainly. I have been drying and shelling my beans by hand. With my carpal tunnel, I think I am asking for a pea sheller come Christmas. I have spent the last three days working on them in my spare time.

I never did really stop gardening last year . . . I did get 309 onion sets planted this afternoon.

Damn this month is flying by already. I have to get the garden area ready by the end of the month.

Have all the seeds now and I got onion sets and a small bag of first early seed potatoes today while in town. Just waiting for the soil to dry out a bit, it's still too wet to work.

I'm still bringing loads of leaves down to the garden. Once I get them all in I'll try to mulch them up with the mower some more before tilling them in. One thing I noticed in the garden was where the onions were planted last year there are a whole bunch of them growing again. I guess I left some? Anyway, I'm always greatful for the free things pop up in there. I usually get a lot of tomato plants from the bad tomatoes that fall on the ground.

Well, the soil is definitely warming up! I just went out to survey the estate (back gardenLOL) and the Rhubarb buds are starting to burst and I found a small patch of Daffodils had pushed through the lawn. Oh and the Garlic is looking splendid. Not long now folks!!:D

Wow! Where does time seem to go any more? Today we laid out some cardboard...put some pig poop mixed with hay in clumps on it and then covered it in mulch delivered by the local tree guys! Four feet wide and not sure how long it will be yet...

We're starting to get our seed and chicken catalogs in the mail now. Other than looking and dreaming there isn't much else we can do right now. The garden is covered under 6 feet of snow and temps are single didgets. Today I had to go get some tractor parts at the JD dealer (150 mile trip). I stopped at the local feed store and saw some green house kits. They were pretty flimsy and only about 6x8 feet in size. I thought the wife may want one until I can build a bigger and better greenhouse. I guess there isn't any hurry, but I am looking forward to spring.

Pricked out the Peppers and Chillies today and sowed some Broad Beans in trays. The weather is not co-operating at all, it's still cold and wet. I now remember why I usually sow them in the Autumn!

I just cut down two non bearing pear trees that I had bought at lowes. They said they produced pears, but honestly they don't even know what they have most of the time. Anyways, I bought three new pear trees to plant tomorrow. Really sucks as the others were like 4 or 5 yrs old and would have been producing well by now. Oh well, patience is a virtue, or so someone says...

Our weather has been perfect here. It's still gotten pretty chilly at night but the days are spectacular. I'm doing my best resisting and not to plant everything yet as I'm sure we will have at least one more frost. Heck it's not unheard of to get a snow in March here. I'm going to wait at least three weeks to plant the peanuts, and guess I will start some veggies inside the greenhouse soon though for transplant shortly. I hope we have a good season this year!

I am still trying to put off myself, but with the weather we have been having it sure has been hard! My transplants are all ready and just waiting patiently. . .this week we are supposed to get down to the high 40s. Yes my tomatoes would survive, but I also don't want to stress or stunt them, so I am waiting. . .

After almost a year of living on store bought veg, we're ready for the real stuff! I too hope we have a good year, I'm looking forward to taking the tins of veg that are in my cupboard down to the food bank once they've been replaced with home produce.

Glad you said that, I need to check dates on canned goods. I rotate fairly well, but some things get near the expiration date still so I donate them just before it.

You just motivated me to start seedlings in the greenhouse today! Probably should have earlier, but life has a way of distracting you.

My daughters and wife do much of the gardening. Though one of the twin girls is doing less now that shes stepped up into an administrative role in the shop. The pregnant twin hasnt been pulling nearly as many hours as she used to. So her and her mom have been doing most of that stuff. I simply dont have time like they do.

But anyway. The cucumbers and mater plants will be ready to move out of my workshop and into the garden as in a month or so. Cuumbers are starting to look good.
