It looks as if today is a repeat of yesterday!

"On May 10, 1944, the head of the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, drew up a memorandum for Joseph Stalin. It concerned the Crimean Tatars, the descendants of nomads who had lived on the northern lip of the Black Sea for centuries.

The author, Lavrentiy Beria, reported that he had looked into the activities of the Crimean Tatars after Hitler invaded the Soviet Union three years earlier, and reached the conclusion that they were collectively guilty of treason against the USSR.

Not only had they failed to resist the advancing German forces, but 20,000 Tatar men were accused of deserting to fight alongside the enemy. Beria’s recommendation to Stalin was approved the next day: all Crimean Tatars were to be deported en masse to Central Asia.

A week later, 32,000 members of the NKVD swung into action. Men, women and children were woken in a carefully planned operation before dawn and given 15 minutes to pack.

They were then loaded into train wagons that set off on a two-and-a-half thousand mile journey into the unknown. No information was given as to where the trains were headed, or what would happen when they finally reached their destination. Conditions were appalling. As one NKVD officer involved put it, the Tatars were ‘packed into the wagons like sardines; the wagons were locked and sealed and put under the guard of military detachments’.

Soon death began to take its toll. The wagons were ‘like mobile gas chambers’, one survivor wrote later, claiming the lives of ‘the old, the young and the weak. They died of thirst, suffocation and the stench...’. Corpses lay decomposing alongside the living, and were only tossed out when the trains stopped to take on food and water.

Less than a month after Stalin’s decree, more than 150,000 Crimean Tatars had been deported to Central Asia, with another 30,000 arriving a matter of weeks later.

According to some estimates, by the middle of the 1950s, fully one third of those who had been moved east were dead – killed during the journey, claimed by disease or hunger. By then, traces of their previous lives were being systematically eradicated.

Villages, mosques and cemeteries were demolished, while towns and regions in Crimea were renamed to give the impression that the Tatars – who had not just lived there, but had also ruled Crimea and the steppe lands north of the Black Sea for hundreds of years – had never been there at all.

The whitewashing of history continued, with the Soviet story set out in the official newspaper Izvestia a year after the end of the war. While ‘the peoples of the Soviet Union had been defending the honour and independence of the Fatherland’ against Hitler’s invasion, the Crimean Tatars had done nothing to help, and worse, had supported the Germans. Yet this was hardly true. A few thousand Crimean Tatars had joined German battalions, presumably to avoid the conditions that Soviet prisoners of war were faced with (nearly half the seven million Soviet soldiers taken by the Germans died in captivity), but passing off an entire people as having committed collective treason masked other issues.

Paramount was the need to account for the chronic failure of the Red Army to deal with the German invasion. Identifying and blaming ‘culprits’ avoided painful truths closer to home.

In that sense, the Crimean Tatars were amongst many who suffered similar fates: the Chechens, Kalmyk, and the Ingush were amongst many ethnic populations that were deported and treated with astonishing cruelty.

Meting out brutal punishment was part of Stalin’s method of controlling the Soviet Union. Phantom plots and implausible conspiracies were everywhere before, during and after the war, which meant that ethnic peoples who regularly pushed for greater rights in communist times (as they had done under the Tsar) were considered particularly suspect.

By the time the Soviet authorities formally lifted the charges of treason from the Crimean Tatars in 1967, it was too late. The damage had been done. A homeland had been lost, history had been twisted, and ironically, Crimea was becoming the summer idyll of choice for the Moscow elites.

In Stalin’s USSR, no one was safe – and many would say the same of Russian under Vladimir Putin."

06/20/16 9:24 "Front illegals" were and still are on the frontline on unofficial agreements directly with officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, - Bilozerskaya

On the demarcation line in the zone ATO does present the so-called front-line illegals - volunteers who are not registered in the APU. They get to the front by tacit agreement with the command of the armed forces directly on the demarcation line.

This was on his page on Facebook wrote a blogger and a fighter AQL "Right sector" Olena Bilozerskaya transmits Tsenzor.NET.

. "Shut up, not to place very heavy issue was raised today after being on." Butovka "killed four" front-line illegal "- volunteers who were not part of the APU - and the Ministry of Defense said the absence of losses - the public, colleagues and commanders perished covered wave of righteous indignation, saying that volunteers in this country and people do not believe some people were genuinely surprised, because believed official propaganda that the contact line contains only the soldiers APU Now these people are disoriented and do not know who and what to believe... I'll tell you the truth - so to speak, from the horse's mouth. "front illegals", informal, not decorated soldiers, who were at the front from the very beginning of the war, there are on the frontline now and will be for as long as this war will continue ( or until it is approved the bill on volunteers, which legalises them and that many of them expect) I purposely did not call them units -. it is not so important now. Why did they not legalized in the MAT? Some do choose this path - the signing of the contract, and for that no one condemns. But volunteers in the APU does not take them formed, proven in combat units, and if they take, the time, and then disbanded. Dilute "Avatar", and most importantly - give orders, to perform which is a crime against the state and their own conscience, "- she explained.

Read also "Tsenzor.NET" "Right sector" is on the boundary line unlawfully and without the agreement, - the press-center ATO Staff

"As you know, both the West and Russia require the Ukrainian authorities to volunteers was not on the line of contact. Why? Because the volunteers are at war and geopolitical players" doterlis "with each other, not to fight. To freeze the conflict, give the opponent time then break the enemy will wait the next convenient opportunity and trample on all methods -.. political, information, sabotage, war - it will attempt to deprive Ukraine of its sovereignty and in return Russia aspiring terrible enemy ", -. Bilozerskaya added.

"How to" illegals "do come to the front of their commander directly negotiate with?" Aggressive brigade commander, "the battalion commander and other officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - those who understand very complicated, almost incomprehensible truth: when part of your state occupied by the enemy, the enemy should be hit even if. your high command is this enemy of business Do you have a homeland, and you are its soldiers at this point "aggressive commanders" need motivated volunteers, because so many of their subordinates - "avatars" that thump in anticipation of rotation and ask...: "Do not shoot the separable because we arrive otvetka, and we soon on demobilization" Making this public fight is impossible because there is no state of war and, therefore, no serious disciplinary punishment and so, not only for us and not only now -.. so in world: forcibly mobilized fight only under duress, and volunteers are fighting much better course, APU has lovely motivated soldiers and entire units with high morale and discipline (eg, because the volunteers are there as part of the APU).. But ... you know, a lot of these men never, and are always looking for more, "- she said.

"The officers of the APU, blowing to the front," illegals ", giving the job to them, writing them BRki, supplying them with the BC - serious risk therefore exists arrangement: we give you a chance to fight, but you do not you advertise that you are on the line of contact and volunteers.. this arrangement operate - more than a year is absolutely not to report our presence on we can not peredke Society must know that we are fighting After all it is our financial support now (we do still exist and are fighting at the expense of what is brought and... send volunteers, and they help those who are at war, and rightly so) and, most importantly, our protection from persecution in the future. People need to know that as long as there was a war, we beat the enemy, and not looters somewhere in the rear . Therefore, we try to give the information dispensed to you to know that we are fighting, but for those who do not, did not know exactly where to local commanders APU us not extruded power ", -.. Bilozerskaya clarified.

"But where is the war, there is, unfortunately, sooner or later, there are wounded and dead. And here begins. One three-hundredth or two hundredth you can still hold a volunteer (drove to the front dumplings fighters and flew here). And when the four dead and about 12 the wounded, and all the "illegals," as it was then to be faithful to the memory of the children, to hide that they were killed in battle - all thought killed in gang violence Any decent person would not do, but the result of such integrity -. whopping disassembly and checks at the level of senior army leadership and the state. Throwing online extra information, we substitute for the repression of those honest officers, with whom we have an agreement, and we ourselves can permanently expel from the front. and it is in this historic moment, we have to be on the front end. (to develop this theme will not) Besides the motive is not to betray the memory of children, there is another, less lofty motives "screaming" about their losses:. in the unit that bears the loss in the front end, as a rule, very well supplied humanitarian aid. Humanitarian aid, of course, necessary, but think: why is it you, if through their own long tongues six months you'll be sitting on the bases "- she stated.

"Friends, I beg you urgently. 1. Do not criticize a public official military speakers for what they do not mention the losses" illegals. "These guys are nowhere to be taken into account, and as long as you do not pick up the fur fly, the Ministry of Defense about these losses as and the existence in this sector of the front itself "illegals", just do not know when they learned -. dead it does not help, but a living creates problems we have plenty of enemies, it is helpful to give them the information in the hands of 2. if appointed.. volunteers suffered losses, report it should be exclusively of their commanders or speakers units in the form of a short battle information, without details, "such number, at the N-rated sector of the front, during a combat mission is a division suffered serious losses" . (the names of those killed - later, when it will be announced farewell) as it is necessary to report on the front and the successes of our children not to betray the memory of the victims of volunteers means, among other things, to live an opportunity to avenge them, "-.. Bilozerskaya summarized.

Recall, June 12 in the morning the commander of the battalion "Kyiv-1" Eugene Dade and nachmedsluzhby "Right sector" Jan Zinkevich reported that from 11 to 12 June 2016 as a result of massive bombardment ATO forces entrenched in the mine Butovka, killing four Ukrainian volunteers from the SS. This information was confirmed by many volunteers and journalists. When shelling, according to their information, were injured Kolo 20 volunteers from AQL and Battalion "Aydar". At the same time the Defense Ministry's press service said that the dead soldiers were not for the period of time mentioned above. As a result, the General Staff initiated an investigation into the deaths of soldiers "Right sector".

ATO spokesperson: Ukrainian Armed Forces did not incur any casualties yesterday
22.06 14:15

Not a single Ukrainian soldier was killed or wounded in action yesterday, said Col. Andriy Lysenko, presidential administration spokesperson on the ATO-related issues at a press briefing.

Russia-backed militants keep violating ceasefire close to Novozvanivka, Luhansk region. Militants fired from an infantry fighting vehicle, grenade launchers and small arms.

In Donetsk sector, militants used artillery near Mayorsk and deployed 130 mortar mines at Ukrainian positions by Troyitke. Militants conduct artillery shelling and fire from grenade launchers and machine guns in the Avdiivka area and Putilivska coal mine as well. “Militants fired over 20 projectiles from the 122 mm artillery systems close to our positions near Mykolayivka Druha to the North of Horlivka,” added Col. Lysenko.

Relative calm has been observed in the Mariupol sector in comparison with intense combat over the last weeks. Militants did not use heavy arms, however, fired from small arms in the areas of Maryinka and Krasnohorivka. Hostile sniper activity was observed there too. Militants also targeted Ukrainian troops located by Vodyane, Taramchuk, Novotroyitske, Hnutove and Talakivka villages.

Col. Lysenko also cited update from the military intelligence, which stated one militant was killed in a friendly fire and four more were wounded in action in the Donetsk sector during reconnaissance missions

Dmitry Tymchuk: Military update 06.17
22.06.2016 - 22:50

Operational data from Information Resistance:
During the past 24 hours, most of the shellings and armed provocations by Russian-terrorist troops were recorded in the coastal direction of operations and south of Donetsk. Militant activity was also observed to the west and northwest of Donetsk, as well as in the area of the Svitlodarsk salient.

In particular, in the area of Avdiivka and adjacent areas (from Opytne to Troitske), we observed the traditionally continuous shelling of the ATO forces’ advanced strongholds and observation posts, with the use of small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. Sporadic 122 mm artillery strikes came near Butivka and the Tsarska Ohota [restaurant]; militant shelling from 82 mm mortars was also observed around the “industrial zone.”

screen-shot-2016-06-21-at-10-13-28-am.png

June: Avdiivka. In the trenches of the “industrial zone” with a soldier of the Special Purpose Regiment “Kyiv,” a new unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the Mar’inka area, there was intense shelling from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. Along the ZaitseveZhovanka stretch, terrorists used heavy machine guns and SPG-9M’s from the direction of Holmivskyi and Rybalka Street. Near Krasnohorivka, militants used a BBM [armored fighting vehicle] and anti-aircraft cannons.

Near Staromykhailivka and further south (in the Zhilploschadka estate), a terrorist tank unit (4 tanks) is in operation. Aimed fire from tank guns was recorded against a stronghold near Krasnohorivka; as were at least two tanks that traveled towards Staromykhailivka from the south.

Russian-terrorist troop formations have not abandoned their attempts to “push” the ATO forces’ units out away from Dokuchajevsk. Operating in this area is a militant artillery group previously transferred here (a division consisting of three batteries); other armaments are also used for shelling. During the past 24 hours, a terrorist fire group with a ZU-23-2 maneuvered between the village of Yasne and the northern neighborhood of Dokuchajevsk, constantly changing positions to shell the ATO forces’ strongholds near Berezove and south-east of that settlement (three times). The group’s operation took place under covering fire from grenade launchers (SPG-9M’s and AGS-17’s). Additionally, militants fired 120 mm mortars from the “black waste mound” (Tsentralnyy Karyer mounds), aiming at Ukrainian troop positions southwest of Dokuchajevsk and then shifting their fire onto theMariupolDonetsk highway and beyond.

On the Svitlodarsk salient, a pair of militant BMP-2’s [infantry fighting vehicles], operating from the direction of Nyzhnje Lozove, shelled the ATO forces’ advanced positions southeast of Luhanske, operating under covering fire from 82 mm mortars. After fire was returned by the ATO forces, the BMP’s returned to their starting lines. Later, the ATO forces’ strongholds south of Svitlodarsk came under fire from 120 mm mortars. East of Novozvanivka, a terrorist fire group slipped into the “greenery” and opened sudden fire from small arms and RPG’s; after its fire was returned, the group retreated behind militant lines under the cover of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars.

Terrorist heavy armor was spotted in the Panteleimonivka and Yasynivka areas, a total of 14 vehicles, camouflaged and dug in, in a “scattered” formation. Additionally, six enemy tank positions were noted in the latter location.

North of Telmanove, a militant D30\D30A howitzer battery (five guns) was spotted on the march; the convoy also included two BTR’s and one MT-LB.

“DNR” and “LNR” media have received instructions from Moscow to start trumpeting the theme of “Russian peacekeepers,” who are supposed to intercede “between the hostile parties” to stop the shelling. As is known, a similar scenario was used in Transnistria and Georgia, after which the Russian “peacekeepers” became an active party to the conflict.

Between 06.20 and 06.24.2016 “DNR” militants plan to deploy two mobile military hospitals with suitable equipment and staff near Bezimenne, Novoazovskiydistrict. Rumors are circulating through militant units stationed in the area that an offensive is planned by their own side along the ShyrokyneHnutovePavlopilline, in late June.

After returning to the “DNR” as a result of prisoner exchanges, liberated militants are placed under close control of “DNR MGB” agencies, with all their contacts photographed and filmed (by “MGB’s” external surveillance groups). The liberated militants are prohibited from contacting other terrorists who have also returned from captivity, which causes indignation among them.

The “DNR” military leadership is considering implementing “supplementary mobilization measures” in occupied districts of Donetsk oblast. The measures will serve primarily to replenish terrorist formations deployed in the Avdiivka area.

According to the “DNR MGB” quota, employees of “DNR police agencies” (officer corps) must book at least two criminal proceedings each month. “Police” workers who fail to meet this target are subject to an official reprimand, and informed that should they continue failing to meet the “target,” they will be transferred to the “front line” for one month.

Two “motorized rifle brigades” of the “2nd LNR AC” are undergoing military exercises with a strong focus on offensive actions, including the breaching of water obstacles.

29.06 17:55

Round-the-clock military action continue in the Avdiivka area, said Col. Andriy Lysenko, presidential administration spokesperson on the ATO-related issues at a press briefing.

Militant snipers were active too. “Due to aggressive actions of the militants, Ukrainian troops retaliated in response,” said Col. Lysenko. This mainly concerned military action close to Dokuchayevsk and Talakivka-Shyrokyne front.
Ukrainian Border Guards detected four flights of the militant drones.

At the same time, commenting on the recent terrorist attack in Turkey, Poroshenko said that Ukraine will side by side with the Turkish people oppose terror as the fight against this phenomenon requires concerted efforts.
As reported, in the evening of June 28, an explosion rocked the Ataturk international airport, its epicenter being in the arrivals area. Three terrorists opened fire to spread panic in the street before two of them got inside the terminal building and blew themselves up. The third one detonated an explosive device at the entrance.
According to the latest official data, the bombing killed 41 and injured 239 people. Four Ukrainians suffered in the attack: one woman died later in hospital, three others received injuries of varying severity. Islamic State is reported to have assumed responsibility for the attack in the main Istanbul airport.

The attack on Europe's third-busiest airport was the deadliest in a series of suicide bombings in Turkey this year.
Later on, Reuters, referring to Turkish officials, reported that the Istanbul terrorists came from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, according to Haber Turk, two of the three suicide bombers had Russian passports.

ATO spokesperson: Military engagement by Novotroyitske lasted for 6 hours
01.07 15:15

Russia-backed militants fired at Ukrainian positions near Novotroyitske, which is in the Mariupol sector, for over 6 hours. They have also used mortars and armored vehicles close to Krasnohorivka, Dokuchayevsk, Starohnatovka and Pavlopil. Ceasefire was holding at Talakivka-Shyrokyne front, said Col. Andriy Lysenko, presidential administration spokesperson on the ATO-related issues at a press briefing.

Militants actively used mortars in the Donetsk sector, deploying over 120 mines, as well as fired from the 122- and 152 mm artillery three times in the area of Svitlodarsk. A series of shootouts have occurred near Avdiivka, Luhanske village, Zaitseve and Horlivka-Yasynuvata front.

Most of ceasefire violations in the Luhansk region took place in Popasna area – the militants fired from the artillery and mortars. Several ceasefire violations were also observed by Krymske and Zolote.

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and four more were wounded in action yesterday.

Operational data from Information Resistance:
Russian-terrorist troops in Donbas continue shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements under Ukrainian control, as well as settlements under terrorist control. During the last 24 hours, the situation began to deteriorate. Militants opened fire practically along the entire demarcation line, using heavy weapons, including 122 mm cannon artillery and armored vehicles (both light infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, as well as heavy tanks).

Constant enemy fire attacks from small arms, light and heavy machine grenade launchers, including anti-tank LNG-9M and automatic AGS-17, 82- and 120 mm mortars were observed near Avdiivka and its outskirts (including “Butovka” mine,Opytne, Tsarska Okhota, “Shakhta,” and Pisky), Dokuchajevsk (includingBerezove, Yasne, and Novotroitske), Horlivka on the perimeter fromNovhorodske to Holmivskyi (militants are particularly active in the area of MayorskyivZhovankaZaitseve), almost across the entire Svitlodarsk arch(from Svitlodarsk to Novozvanivka), almost the entire seaside flank (fromHranitne to Shyrokyne) and areas to the west and south of Donetsk, includingMar‘inka and Krasnohorivka, ShchastiaStanytsia Luhanska (in the latter area, the enemy was particularly active in the nighttime).

Terrorists twice shelled the positions of ATO forces in the area of Stanytsia Luhanska from a BMP-1, from their positions to the northeast of Veselenke, firing also from large-caliber machine guns and AGS-17, providing cover for the maneuvers of armored vehicles.

Moreover, militants opened fire twice from 122 mm artillery in the Donetsk area, namely from camouflaged positions between the village of Veseleand Stratonavtiv Street (three 122 mm self-propelled 2S1 “Carnation” guns); the shells from 56-58 rounds spread in the fields between NetayloveYasnobrodivkaTonenke. Meanwhile, terrorists attempted to correct artillery fire using UAVs.

In addition, the enemy used artillery applied in the area of Styla. A firing battery (four D-30/D-30A 122 mm guns) opened rapid fire on advanced settlements and strongholds of the ATO forces. Militants fired about 35 rounds during the raid on Ukrainian troop positions in the vicinity of Viktorivka and north of Bohdanivka.

In the area of Avdiivka, terrorists fired from tank weapons. A militant tank fired up to 10 rounds from masked positions in the area of the 251.2 elevation, mainly with RP-shells, towards ATO forces’ positions in the industrial area, after which the tank moved back to the terrorist positions. The tank’s departure was covered by mortar fire (from at least a full battery of 82 mm mortars) from the direction of the “Hospodar” market.

Of particular importance are increasing enemy attacks that purposefully use anti-tank missile systems to destroy ATO forces’ light armored vehicles located directly at the front line. Analysis of the militant anti-tank missile system detachments shows that in the course of their work, the militants are actively using information obtained from enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the ground, who refine and ‘tag’ the targets (including benchmarks and tracking the movements of ATO forces’ armored vehicles). For example, in the vicinity of the 175.9 elevation (located south of Sokilnyky) militants set up an “anti-transport ambush” by carrying out two strikes from anti-tank missile systems in the “greenery” at previously explored positions of Ukrainian armored vehicles (both shots missed their targets).

The situation remains difficult in Dokuchajevsk where militants are actively trying to push Ukrainian units as far away from the settlement as possible; armed confrontations are in their fourth day in the area. Terrorist infantry groups continue to infiltrate the flanks and junctures of embankments and the advanced positions of the ATO forces from time to time, in order to force Ukrainian troops to withdraw at least to the MariupolDonetsk highway, or even all the way to Novotroitsk. The main point of tension is an advanced ATO forces’ position at the so-called “gray waste heaps” (an elevation south of the Central quarry dumps), which effectively prevents terrorists from operating [in areas] south of Dokuchajevsk, because it allows the ATO forces to sweep all the entrances to the city from this direction.

In addition to attacks and provocations, the enemy actively regroups its personnel and equipment, equipping several units and detachments, both on the front line and in the second tier. Of particular importance is the transfer of crossing means to the area between the settlements of Shchastia and Zhovte. In addition, attention should be paid to the fortification of StakhanovAlchevsk enemy groups – the IR group has detected the transfer of at least one militant “motorized infantry battalion” using several convoys from the direction of Lutuhyne and Petrovskyi (14 MT-LB and BMP-1 and ten vehicles passed through Bile [“Bee-leh´”], 15-16 armored vehicles passed through SeleznivkaPerevalsk, including a BMP-1, BMP-2, MT-LB, five BTR-70 and BTR-80, and 14-15 motor vehicles, including 8 vehicles, part of a mortar battery (120-mm mortars). The transfer was carried out in small groups (likely platoons) over a period of two days.

In addition, a secret transfer of a militant tank platoon and eight armored vehicles was observed in Olenivka; the transfer was carried out by bypassing the settlement from the east. The enemy also transferred eight APCs from the eastern part of the Petrovskyi district of Donetsk via the Donetsk Bypass road towards the south. The enemy continuously supplies ammunition in the Styla area. According to preliminary data, militants set up an advanced base in the eastern part of the Petrovskyi district of Donetsk or behind it in the are toward Lisne.

In an area from Staromykhailivka and to the north of it, up to Spartak andPutylivka, militants have launched a network of mobile roadblocks and checkpoints in the tactical and operational-tactical zone. In effect, they have “closed” the entire northwest corner of Donetsk, south of Avdiivka, and the Donetsk International Airport. The purpose of these activities is currently being assessed – most likely, a large terrorist formation will be set up and deployed in the area.

Dmitry Tymchuk: Military update 06.09
11.07.2016 - 11:12

Operational data from Information Resistance:
Another escalation of the conflict is observed in the ATO zone in Donbas. In addition to small arms, grenade launchers, and 82 mm mortars, Russian-terrorist troops are using 122 mm artillery, 120 mm mortars, and armored vehicles to fire on Ukrainian troop positions and civilian objects.

Terrorists opened fire from 120 mm mortars on the ATO forces’ positions in the industrial zone of Avdiivka from positions north of Yasynuvata and beyond the Yasynuvata junction; [the enemy] also fired at the ventilation shaft of the Butivka Mine (from positions in Spartak and beyond the high-rise apartment blocks south of the [Yasynuvata] junction).

[The enemy] fired on Avdiivka from the direction of Yakovlivka, over 10 rounds of 122 mm artillery shells from self-propelled artillery units.

Avdiivka graffiti: “May God protect Avdiivka!!!”

Militants opened fire on the ATO forces’ positions in Mar’inka from the direction ofOleksandrivka, using the on-board weapons of a BMP-1 (another camouflaged BMP-1, was detected in the area).

In the Dokuchajevsk area, terrorists opened fire from 120 mortars at the “gray waste bank” from the direction of the Tsentralnyy Karyer [Central Quarry] dumps.

Panic is spreading through the ranks of the “law enforcement” (officers of the DNR Ministry of Internal Affairs) in the militants’ “Horlivka Garrison.” Under orders of the “DNR Ministry of Internal Affairs” command, local “law enforcement officers” are used to urgently staff mobile counter-sabotage groups, in light of an alleged threat of a mass breakthrough by Ukrainian DRG’s in the area. [Terrorists] are taking measures to reinforce the security of critical facilities and establish patrols. For the most part, local “law enforcement officers” have no desire to resist “Ukrainian saboteurs.” In fact, there has been a sharp increase in medical leaves and resignation letters at the “DNR Ministry of Internal Affairs.” At the same time, a number of units of the First Army Corps of the DNR are being transferred from Donetsk to Horlivka.

In Donetsk, the command of the “DNR Ministry of State Security” has instructed to bring “security forces and means” to full readiness in connection with the “threat of terrorist attacks against the first persons of the state.”

Four militant mine-sweeping groups arrived in the area of Yasynuvata. According to the “DNR” command, Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups are laying minefields heavily in this area. Dissemination of this information is met with extremely negative response among the locals. At the same time, the recent few weeks saw two civilian casualties caused by tripwires previously installed by terrorists themselves. Meanwhile, large amounts of unexploded ordnances on the YasynuvataAvdiivka stretch remain a problem; due to hostilities in the area, locating and neutralizing them is currently impossible.

In the Mariupol direction of ATO operations, over a thousand explosive devices (shells, mines, etc.) have been destroyed only in the past month. Source: UaForces
South of Debaltseve (between Ridkodub and Fashchivka), there is an accumulation of terrorist military equipment: about the size of a “motorized infantry company” with BMP-2’s and MT-LB’s (including at least two “Strela-10M” short-range air defense missile systems ) and four “Gvozdika” 122-mm 2S1 self-propelled guns.

Among militant units of the “1st Army Corps of the DNR” that hold positions in the areasouth of Donetsk, rumors continue circulating about an imminent arrival of a “strike brigade” from occupied Crimea, staffed by professionally-trained Russian mercenaries and traitors from among former Ukrainian servicemen who remained in Crimea. This information is currently being verified.

In the settlement of Sorokyne of Luhansk Oblast (formerly Krasnodon), the so-called “People’s Police of the LNR” is looking for two locals who robbed a Russian mercenary that came to Donbas from Volgograd (Russian Federation). [The attackers] took an AKS-74U machine gun, 14,000 Rubles [USD 219], two mobile phones, and a gold necklace with a crucifix. The mercenary suffered moderate injuries.

ATO spokesperson: Militants shell Ukrainian positions by Zaitseve and Avdiivka
12.07 16:38

Most of military action occurred near Zaytseve and at Avdiivka area in the Donetsk sector yesterday. According to Col. Andriy Lysenko, presidential administration spokesperson on the ATO-related issues, Ukrainian troops opened fire in response.

A 30-minutes-long engagement occurred near Troyitske after midnight. Ukrainian troops fought off the attack and captured three militants. Hostile snipers fired at Ukrainian positions in Luhanske, Novhorodske and Avdiivka. The southernmost hot spot in the Donetsk area was Butovka coalmine. Ceasefire was holding in the area in Opytne and Pisky.

Last morning, a skirmish took place in Stanytsia Luhanska, Luhansk region. Two more ceasefire violations occurred along the Bakhmut road. Most tense situation has been observed close to Popasna. The militants twice fired from mortars and twice from the artillery, deploying 47 shells in total.

In the Mariupol sector, most of the fighting happened on the Krasnohorivka-Maryinka front and near Shyrokyne. Militants frequently used mortars, as well as hostile snipers were active. In addition, several ceasefire violations have been observed in Dokuchaevsk suburbs, Novohryhorivka and Pavlopil, however, complete ceasefire reigned in the area between 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ukrainian forces detected seven flights of militant drones on reconnaissance missions in the Donetsk region.

Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in action; another four servicemen were wounded in action in the last 24 hours.

Col. Lysenko also cited military intelligence update on militant casualties. Four militants were killed and three more were wounded in action yesterday.

How Russia has prepared for aggression against Ukraine for 10 years. Instruments of hybrid war: diplomacy, media and culture

Thesis to the second anniversary of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian-Russian relations have a long and controversial history, dating back hundreds of years. Their main theme is the desire of Muscovy and its successors – the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation – to prevent the establishment of an independent state for the Ukrainian people and thus prevent the country from becoming a full member of the European community of nations.

Since Ukraine gained independence in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian elite has regarded it as an unfortunate historical “misunderstanding” that should be corrected as soon as possible.

Russian President Putin said: “First of all we have to admit that the crash of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century. And it became a real drama for the Russian people. Tens of millions of our compatriots found themselves outside the Russian territory.” (video)

The events of 2014-2015 proved that this view is widely supported throughout Russian society. Even in January 2016, according to the results of opinion polls, 64% of Russians supported the aggression against Ukraine.

In the minds of the Kremlin leadership and much of the population, Russia is surrounded by enemies who want to capture Russian natural resources. The leading role in this “global conspiracy” is played by the West, led by the US. In order to survive, the Russian leadership believes in the absolute nessesity to regain control over the lost territories of the USSR and the “socialist camp”. The key objective is to recapture Ukraine, which should dramatically increase Russia’s demographic, political, economic, military and other resources. In the irrational worldview of the “Kremlin dreamers”, restoring control over Kyiv – “the mother of all cities”, capital and ancestral home of Eastern Slavic Orthodoxy – is a vital interest of Russia.

On August 26, 1991, two days after the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Act of Independence of Ukraine, P.Voschanov, press secretary of RSFSR President Boris Yeltsin, on his behalf announced the official position of Russia’s relations with the “Union republics”: “RSFSR reserves the right to raise the issue of revision of borders.” On August 28, 1991 the official delegation of the RSFSR led by Vice President of the Russian Federation O. Rutskoy came to Kyiv to force the Ukrainian leadership to renounce the newly proclaimed independence and threatened to revise borders in case Ukraine separates from Russia.

Only six months later, Russia’s territorial claims to Ukraine were issued as official decisions of Russian supreme state bodies. On May 21, 1992, the RF Parliament adopted Decree № 2809-1 “On legal evaluation of the decisions of the supreme bodies of state power of the RSFSR to change the status of Crimea, adopted in 1954,” according to which the decree of the Presidium of the RSFSR Supreme Soviet of February 5, 1954 “On the transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR” was recognized as void since its adoption. In December 1992, the Congress of People’s Deputies of the Russian Federation authorized the Parliament to consider the status of Sevastopol, and on July 9, 1993, to fulfill this mandate, the Russian Parliament announced Russian federal status of Sevastopol according to the Decree “On the status of Sevastopol”.

Fundamental belief in the transience of Ukrainian independence has determined Russian policy toward Ukraine since 1991, which is set forth in the corresponding strategic documents. In a public report “Russia – CIS: Does the position of the West need adjusting?” the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, then headed by Y. Prymakov, defined scenario of enhancing centripetal processes up to “creating a confederation within the CIS” as optimistic for Russia. This scenario also emphasized the possibility of “transition to a federal system in some countries of the Commonwealth.” The report of the Russian intelligence, PGU KGB successor, declared a kind of Russian Monroe Doctrine, or a new edition of the “Brezhnev Doctrine”, for the former Soviet Union: the West must coordinate their activity in the former Soviet Union with the Kremlin.

Russian President Boris Yeltsin declared that the main goal of Russia’s policy regarding the CIS is “creating an integrated economic and political union of states capable of claiming a rightful place in the international community”[1]. Russian President Vladimir Putin left the goal intact. The Russian strategic document states that “the CIS is the territory of our core vital interests in the field of economy, defense, security, protection of the Russians, which is the basis of national security of the country; effective cooperation with CIS countries is a factor that resists centrifugal tendencies in Russia itself.”[2] Political and economic stability of the CIS states became dependent on their friendly relations towards Russia.

Crisis processes that determined the political and economic agenda in the Russian Federation during the 1990s (anti-constitutional Yeltsin rebellion of1993[3], that ended in a brutal shooting at the Russian parliament, the overthrow of the constitutional order and mass casualties, genocide of the Chechen people in the 1st and 2nd Chechen war, a number of horrific acts of terrorism, “colonial” wars in Moldova, Tajikistan, Georgia, separatist manifestations in several regions of Russia (North Caucasus republics, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Yakutia, Tuva, Sverdlovsk region, etc.), hyperinflation and catastrophic decline in GDP, default of 1998, total criminalization of society and the state, etc.) determined Russian revanchist strategy for nearly 10 years.

Dealing with complex domestic political and economic problems, the Kremlin had to maintain the illusion of good relations with Ukraine in the 1990s, in particular, on December 5, 1994 the Russian Federation together with the USA and the UK signed the Memorandum on Security Assurances in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (Budapest Memorandum), under which it undertook to:

Minsk agreements – an attempt to analyze approaches and intentions of the participants of the process
Posted on Sunday, 26 June, 2016 - 15:44 | 0 Comments

Today’s publication of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” of the results of the poll on attitudes Ukrainian to Minsk agreements and de-occupation of Crimea coincides with diplomatic curiosity – Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State, which in these days was in Kyiv, had to explain that her words during the meeting in the Ukrainian Parliament were quite not correctly perceived, and the United States had no wishes or plans on the date of the elections in the Donbas region, and the elections can be held only by Ukrainian laws in accordance with the standards and under the control of the OSCE after the implementation of those items of the Minsk agreements that were intended to ensure sustainable truce and security.

After such a comprehensive explanation remains only one question: what the point was to fly to Ukraine to repeat those items that were recorded back in February 2015, in Measures to implement the Minsk agreements that had been “pushed” by the same Victoria Nuland in the Ukrainian Parliament in August last year before the voting in the first reading for amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on the status of Particular Districts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, and even despite the fact that nothing since then had changed, and the world slowly realized that the Minsk agreements were not just “bad agreements”, but also not suitable for implementation?

It seems that everything is not so easy as tried to explain Victoria Nuland.

Many are absolutely sincerely surprised by Western position on the Minsk agreements. Why is Ukraine under pressure about the implementation of the political part of Minsk Agreements even though the ceasefire in Donbas has never occurred, and not to mention about returning Ukrainian hostages or the withdrawal of Russian troops?

Let’s try to figure out WHO wants WHAT in the Minsk arrangements, and more specifically in the process of their implementation.

Who – are the main players. No matter how we want to see ourselves and the West countries as members of the one front, but now in the process of settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine are three major players with different approaches, motives and interests – Ukraine, the West and Russia.
