I know that a microwave oven can be used as a Faraday cage to protect electronics from EMP (if that is no longer true please correct me). Does anyone know if it will block the signals to a cell phone?

Thanks,
John

Easy to test. Some microwaves do, some don't. Basically, put a cell phone in it, call it. If signal gets through, it isn't protected.

Plenty of ways to make a more practical faraday cage though.

Looking at easy ways to keep our cells from being used to track movements. Don't want our MAG group treks to Farandwee showing up on someone's radar.

Make a cardboard holster, then cover it in foil tape. Add a similar cap and a way to make it seal, and you should have it. Or, any lined, small metal container, like try a cookie tin, for example.

So any metal container? Does it need to be grounded?

I put ours in an all metal cookie tin lined with bubble wrap to stop the electronics from touching the metal of the tin.

Except the video of you paying for it and the UPC that matches the activation code :)

Oh and don't forget the RFID chip in your wallet in debit cards or drivers license :)

Lots of really bad information here concerning EMP...

A microwave? ROFLMAO.. =FAIL Unless the EMP somehow happens to be at the exact same frequency as you cook your popcorn with, the microwave isn't going to help..

not bothered about a faraday cage, having a mobile phone wont do much good when the petrol pumps and the garage computer don't work, or the supermarket automatic doors or the tills don't work.
Having a working ham radio, cb radio, or a variety of diagnostic tools like multimeter or voltage testers would be very helpful and could make a huge difference in your survivability. And what about a battery charger? An EMP could fry those too so now no flashlights..

not keeping any of those, my lights will be storm lanterns-no batteries. why would I want a multimeter or a battery charger when there is no electric??:D

Suit yourself.. You may not have electricity, but I will.. I'll have multiple sources of electrical generation.. especially after I use my multimeter to diagnose and make repairs. You'd be surprised at how effective the Sun is at charging batteries...
