Agreed. The well was put in several years ago, but never had a pump installed. The well is 650' deep so the pump alone will cost over $10,000. We also have a spring fed pond but it's a 1/2 mile away. My wife plans to plant her garden in 1/3 sections each year and rotate.
Most of my seeds have risen out of the ground now. It has become one of the most satifying things I've done . Not high excitement I admit, but growing your own food is gratifying. I started burying the potatoe plants today. It will be a multi day deal as I didn't get too far.well.my black eye peas have come up.right along with what im thinking,is my pole beans.so i gotta start looking for canning recipes for them
I planted asparagus three times before it finally survived. It's taking over a corner in the greenhouse now. I hope to start harvesting nest year. It's a slow starting plant, but will produce for years to come.
I almost wish we had frost! It was brutally hot today. I'm watering constantly to keep stuff alive right now.
I picked a pile of onions and carrots yesterday. I got a handful on green beans and peas too. I also picked my first 4 ripe tomatoes and the first cucumber tonight! I need to pick and pickle some beets soon too. Only wish there were more hours in the day.
We got a little rain last night and 42 this morning. Some light snow a little higher up in the mountains. Went fishing at a small lake not far from our place and it's still surrounded with snow drifts.
I actually don't know what the temp was today, but in 90's at least. I was working inside, but when going out to the parking lot to get supplies, it was so bad you would be drenched in sweat in a minute. Maybe I got soft from having an easy job for the last nine years!
Good to hear from you kid. Sorry about the fish pond, er, garden.... At least it was only the garden that drowned. I think lots of places in Texas got more water than they wanted this year. I saw way too many pictures of flooded homes.
