When training at knife fighting, any drills you do with partners would obviously have to be done with practice knives for safety reasons but for solo drills, would you ever use live blades?

I have with partners but, I don't recommend it. It takes an incredible amount of skill and control plus, no cut shirts and gloves and mask. Without, just have a cut kit ready( paper towels, wound cleaning, super glue), That way when you cut yourself, and you will, your ready to handle it. Also with partners to keep your skill level realistic make a limited number of cuts in order to call a match, like 1 - 3. Also coat your training knives edge with red lipstick to keep track if a cut was real. Later you can assess the damage that cut would have had in the real world.

I like to use the cold steel training knifes. Mainly because they are mocks of real blades he sells.

Sparring I wouldn't use live blades. When using specific training dummies like those with a more human like consistency it's a better idea.

No I'd never train with a real knife. In fact I'd skip trying to be a ninja and forego knife training... If someone ever comes at me with a knife (and I don't have a firearm on me) I'm running the opposite direction until they stop following me.

I think it's definitely worth learning, even if you don't necessarily think it will be helpful. No matter how prepared you are, depending of course on how badly the shtf, ammo can't possibly last forever. You may run out, and knife training could potentially save your life.

Of course, knives are useless against guns, so...... Yeah

Knives do fine against guns. If you think different you haven't seen it for real. I've had really well trained buddies get stabbed several times before they can draw a firearm. So in the real world be very aware that a knife with in 30 feet can be a real threat.

And if they don't stop following you?

You make enough distance and then shoot them. I'm too smart to try to get into a edged weapon to edged weapon fight.
Ok not trying to make you a ninja, just trying to open your mind to the fact that a situtation might arise whereby you might need some edged weapon skills, if you don't have them you might just become dead. But if you want to stick to your "guns only" be my guest. (PS. You created the above scenario, where you didn't have access to a firearm.)
Ou Afrikaanse gesegde. "Slim vang sy baas." Old Afrikaans saying "Mr. Clever gets caught by the Boss."

Yeah I have no experience with this... Probably should work on that haha

Knife sparring with sharp knives is just...nuts, in my opinion. Though, the training knives should be as similar as possible (see the cold steel example above) to the sharp version, so you're used to the size, shape, weight, etc. One of the reasons I walk with a cane though. I pretty rarely actually need to use one, but being able to legally and unquestionably carry around a baseball bat with you, everywhere you go, is just kind of nice, and my cane is the equal of any baseball bat
