Cooking without electricity isn't hard with a little forethought. I've got five different grills now, a ceramic one, a regular charcoal one, two mini propane ones, and the new 5 burner one. Everything in the house is electric, so I've collected alternatives over the last couple years.

yeah.cooking without gas or electric aint to hard.it's just a matter of taking the time to learn how.and then doing so..

probably both,TX andWY .and i just thought..we do have a fire pit,in our sitting area.so learning how to use to cook could be a added plus.

What made me think of that was a old cooking cowboy show where they used grills and dutch ovens on a open fire .
We cook like that when we are camping .

When I first moved into the house (before the stove was hooked up), I made a cake on my gas grill. I was actually part of a wedding cake I was making for a friend. Ya just gotta remember to take out the smoker chips & it does a great job. Smoked chocolate wedding cake wouldn't have gone over very well.

Learning to be flexible in difficult circumstances is the secret to success.

Just returned from taking another load of stuff out to our BOL. That makes 2 trips in two weeks, and a total of 3 loads so far. One more finial load, after the closing on the house, and we'll be all moved. Got a contractor lined up for building the house and barn, but due to the time of year, we may have to wait until Spring to build the house. May get the barn built this Fall if the weather holds out though. Will start looking now for livestock for delivery next Spring.

my peppers are slow going.picked 5 jalapenos today,and have 7 more on the plants. and i have 7-12 habaneros growing..and amazingly enough.there's 4 tomato's growing as well.still small.but yet..who knows..

It's kind of sad to see all the summer garden winding down, but at the same time it's encouraging to see the fall stuff sprouting. I wish I lived in a really tropical place that didn't freeze in the winter.

this week I have been emptying and fixing my spare bedroom for my preps and some gym equipment as my oldest son apparently found the love of his life and moved to her, which is nice :)

Don't go too far, as they may find out that the new 'one' isn't as perfect as they thought at first. Hopefully they will work out the give and take it really takes to make a relationship work, and give you some space!

do hope they make it out and understand that there are two in a relationship.
perhaps I can "build" a small green house for me to grow some herbs and sallad for the winter..though this school takes its toll on me,but I'll manage somehow ;)

All of my projects for October are more comfort related, not really prepper ones. We are replacing the carpet in a couple bathrooms with tile (who the hell decided to carpet a bathroom?), and redoing the tile in our main hallway. We're finishing up some painting projects (even the map mural in the dining room, which is coming along nicely...I'll have pics up soon). Got new curtains for the windows that really class the place up. Mostly, we're doing a lot before we host Thanksgiving for family.

I do have a couple of Nov prep projects though...largely the bunny habitat I keep putting off, some garage cleanup, and moving some shelves out of the shop, and into places for stockpile storage instead. We're starting the shop conversion from Tack Shop to Scrapbooking Studio in Nov, so looking forward to that. Will be nice to have that space make some money for a change. (I hope). Going to try and sell off the inventory as well as garage sale type stuff, through Nov. Just need it gone. So much wasted space. I've got the equivalent of a damn semi trailer full of stuff. Not to mention all the stock in the store.

and I finally got my vest modified, got rid of that string system they had on in to make it fit you and replaced it with nylon straps and fast locks instead, will post pics later.

i've been chipping away at some rich light pine i have.so i'll have wood chips as a fire stater.that stuff is tuffer then i remembered...

It's a big plus to have fresh food most of the year. I just picked all this tonight. Those turd looking things are beets, and are really good sliced raw in a salad. I still have a couple more watermelons to pick, and that was the last of the cucumbers :(. I have so many grapes in the freezer now I will be making wine all through the winter. I literally don't have any more room in there at all! I built the greenhouse mostly out of recycled materials, so it was pretty cheap. It was one of the best things I have done for prepping so far. (And eating).

Had a really good weekend here. It rained all day Saturday, so I worked on the inside of front porch. I am using the south facing porch to try and help with catching energy. I am hoping it will act like a greenhouse with all the windows, which will help heat the house in winter, and with open windows and a reflective white metal roof, will help shade the house in summer. Anyway, I got most of the subfloor down on sat. Only three sheets to go to finish! I also came up with a plan for the small wood burning stove I have out in the garage. I've decided to put it on the porch. Not only will it be easy to install the flue, but the mess from the wood won't be inside the main house, which will make the wife really happy. The main fireplace will get a set of gas logs. With a wood fire in it, most of the heat goes straight up and out, but with gas I can shut off the flue and not only have a nice looking fire, but can retain all the heat in the house as well. All this work is towards my goal of being able to function comfortably if we loose electricity. It's funny, a couple people have told me that if we lost the grid they would just rather die and get it over with. I just responded, you do know that people lived throughout most of history without electricity don't you?
Sunday I finished welding together the truck ladder rack. It still needs a lot of grinding, cleaning and paint, but is together now at least. It's going on my sons truck, so him and his wife worked on it with me. The best prep I did all weekend though was steaks on the grill for a late lunch for us all.
