Looking for suggestions on building a house in the suburbs, ground up, without bringing attention to the defensive design. (( currently ( the HOA) or near future (raiders)). Any suggestions on materials, design, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Flower beds around the house made of brick and at least 1 1/2 ft thick 3 ft tall fill with sand or gravel then leave the top foot for actually growing things. This will give cover and concealment. All doors in the house should be solid core doors with reinforced jams. Find steel made bath tubs, have them in every bathroom. There is a company called Hardwire llc http://www.hardwirellc.com/index.htm they sell level 3a bullet proof peel and stick door covers. I had a buddy of mine place those on the inside of the drywall in strategic places to give some level of protection at certain points. Hidden compartments in walls and stairs and a safe room. Also hidden cameras and flood lighting around the house pointing out. All the flood lights should be switch and movement activated.

This can give you an idea about how to make hidden compartments even in a stair case. Have them everywhere you can manage.

Maybe you could look at building the house totally from bricks outside walls is about a foot wide inner walls 1/2 a foot, solid clay fired bricks not hollow cinderblocks, dont know what the costs would be over there.

Before you lay the foundation a bunker is always a good idea. I once built a wooden house here in za, more like a three bedroom two bathroom house but it had a bunker with three outlet points. I had it built out of karoo iron wood with supports of brick and a basement.

I don't know what suburbs you live in but I am lucky if I can build a storm shelter in norman Oklahoma.

make the siding and roof non flammable so it is harder to burn you out, have a plan to slow them down if they get inside such as trip wires "to make them fall", flashing strobes, mannequins or cardboard cutouts to draw their attention away from you for that crucial few seconds,

have plants with thorns in front of the windows.chances are.a intruder wont have a way to cut them back.

The best plan would be to sell out of the suburbs and buy some acreage as far out of town as you can get. I realize this may be difficult due to jobs, family, money, etc, but if you truly believe that we're heading for a SHTF event, do you really want to be in a suburban area where 99% of the people will want what you have?
