G'day fellow aussie preppers heres a topic that is highly unlikely but possible to happen should we come under attack when ww3 does break out and all our ADF troops are deployed to fight it overseas going by China and Indonesia's amping up of their military artillery and air might for some kind of sneak attack on us much like what our now close allies Japan did back in 1942 when they were power hungry and bombed WA and Darwin

How is everyone prepping for this highly unlikely but possible scenairo even though at the moment our main concern is terrorism on our own soil

I am pre prepping by honing my HF radio communications skills as mobile phone networks will be the first thing that will get attacked jamming networks making it impossible to send urgent messages or calls by having a back up communication available will help relay messages

If i'm automatically drafted into the Australian Army to defend Australia i'll be asking to be deployed to darwin as thats the main gateway to asia where our enemies could make entry

I know its abit far fetched but anything is possible these days

All we have to do is blow up the Stuart Hwy a 100k or so south of Darwin, then they'll have to walk 3000k :)

Honestly we're pretty f*cked if a large force landed in Oz, hopefully our American friends (hi guys :tank:, we're good mates right?) will step in and help. Personally I'm thinking to head for the hills and maybe go all Red Dawn on them, as to what good that would do I have no idea but for a short while I'd feel better.

Hi Rob, GN - I agree for the most part. If there is a war overseas, we would never send all our troops over - maybe 3 battalions, and have 3 in reserve/top ups. And, the Reserve element would be called up for defensive roles.

Rob, if you are called up, you will have no choice where you go - you will be sent where you are needed, and where your skills can be utilised best.
One thing to our advantage is our vast space - it worked for the Russians in WW2 - they retreated, burnt everything of use, and stretched the German supply lines. Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower that the Russians had to call upon. There may be small elements who will use guerrilla tactics behind enemy lines, but they will be small and unless properly re supplied, may not be very effective. Being a country with strict gun laws, we will also be hamstrung with our weapons.

It is not an unrealistic scenario you have raised Rob. Will the US back us??? Only if it suits their international policy! We may be allies, but if we are being invaded, then that means other nations are under attack, including possibly the US. I think we will be down the bottom of their priorities.

GN, I'm with you - to the hills and form/be a part of a hit/run fighting force.

As the quote says " Better to die standing than to live on your knees".

Again, an interesting scenario.

A valid point there Jayjay i wonder if theres anything in the Australian constitution which stipulates that all able bodied men regardless of age, race or education will be automatically enlisted should war come to our shores

Here's a good link;

It's not in our constitution as I read it now, but it could be re-enacted if it came to it! But to be of benefit, we would need a lot of time to prepare and to train the conscripts.
I guess if China moved south we'd have a good 6 months to prepare ( though it only took the Japanese till Jan 23rd 1942 to reach the northern shores of Papua - so about 6 weeks from Pearl Harbour), and today's warships and planes are a lot faster and have longer ranges - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Guinea_campaign ).

I think if we were to come under attack from China, they would have taken out the US/Japanese Pacific fleets, gone through Vietnam and Philipines, made an alliance with Indonesia, and possibly leap frogged places like Papua and came here - we have water, food, and land.

It is an interesting scenario.

Yeah you guys have a reasonably large presence in Oz, and I think lately there's a buildup of marines up north in the NT (Northern Territory). Let's hope it never comes to that eh, and if it does that you guys aren't up to your arse in alligators as well.

EDIT: I just realised that link is to an anti-base site, oh well, there will always be people for and against everything I suppose.

Yep, it's an anti-base site, but in that, it does show the info well, hehe.....so that's why I used it.

Na, we have the Aussies back and flank besides, we have to much in common with one another, we both the bastard children of Great Britain and we bastards stick together ;) On a serious note, the only way the US couldn't come to the Aussies aid if we are attacked on all sides thus pinning us down in several battles at once and don't think for once if china was to move against Australia NK and russia wouldn't take advantage, the US would have to be taken out before china moves against Australia! Right now china doesn't have the logistics to move a large ground offensive from outside it's borders at any great distance for any sustained period of time.

On a very serious note, the Aussies are such ###-holes the chinese would just throw their hands up and walk home ;)

....And I am quite sure the UK would be all over this like a bunch of pissed off hornets!

Yeah Maverick I think you're right, once they got here and realised what a bunch recalcitrant ex-convicts we are they'd high-tail it home :)

Of course regardless of what your respective governments do I fully expect you guys to come over and help out, with your guns you would about double the Aussie civilian fire power.
