I was at Walmart and they had the black powder supplies on sale! (End of season) I got my 50cal. Thompson center fire last year and was able to buy primers and pellets, but they were out of shots for it. This was the first time I have seen them on the shelf so I got 45 of the pointed sabots, and 40 of the 50 cal hollow points. I also grabbed 5 more arrows that were on sale too. I still haven't shot the muzzle loader, now that I have some shots I guess I need to.
Always a good deal. Theres something special about shooting a muzzle loader. I love to hunt with my side lock in 54cal.

I didn't get a hunting lisc. This year, but may one of these days. I bought it on a fluke, it was on clearance for 1/3 off and I can't resist a deal. I think I got it more for security than hunting. I figured if I couldn't find ammo I could make a ball for it. I guess powder would be tough to come by as well though, so really it's a cool toy.

I used to load some blackpowder loads for my .44 mag . I havn't had a muzzel loader in several years when I did I had s T/C Hawken .

i stopped at a yard sale on the way home, just to see what they have..and ended up buying 2 pipe wrenches, which are the older types, and a bow..and all 3 for $12:00..i'll take pics of them later :p

here we go..the pipe wrenches are 10 and 18 inch wrenches

Not actual prepping but good practice for post TEOTWAWKI . The Wife had to work and I had the day off so I put on some camo and took one of my rifles and went for a hike in a area Game . It was .37 f and the woods was wet from yesterdays rain nice trip I didn't shoot anything but enjoyed being in the outdoors and away from work . Came home and fixed a big breakfast of eggs over easy bisquets and county ham topped off with cheery presarves and strong coffee .
jontte I saw we had a some one on this site from your part of the world this morning . Telemark Norway . If the Country side there is like the old Kirk Douglas movie Heroes of Telemark that is a place for prepping .

sure is!!
I'm gonna give 110% at the exams next thu,'cause I've already spotted a nice little house away from here and if I manage to do it right I would be out of here in 2 years..maybe less than that...woods..water..fresh air and nice people (Finish Carelians;friendly and easy going)

still wonder were the Finns are?? I can't be the only sensible one ;)

Had a great day today. I took the firebrick out of the fireplace, as some were loose and a couple cracked, cleaned the flue, and reset all the bricks. I have a new blade on the tile saw so it was cake to cut the new bricks. Anyways, no that wasn't all that fun, but now I'm relaxing in front of the first fire of the year. I just had a meal of smoked/barbecued rabbit and sweet carrots and green beans that I had canned from the garden. I put a tiny bit of brown sugar in with the carrots and made them even a little bit sweeter. I also had a cup of ice cream for desert, and now will sip on a little homemade muscadine wine for the rest of the evening. Now I need to keep the fire going for about 4 hrs to set the refractory cement, and I'm good till next fall when I'll check it out again.

that looks amazing, there's something very relaxing about sight and sound of a fire...controlled one I must add ;)

As a teenager we used to go out in the woods, build a good fire and drink beer. Now, at 51, I still enjoy it more than most things.

rather that than a noisy bar, what's better than a good fire, stars in the nightsky and a cold one.

Finally got ahold of some good cast iron for cheap. :) sadly it wasn't in the greatest of shape, so I had to take steel wool to it and then reseason it. However, they did turn out very nicely for a kid who's never really used anything cast iron except a Dutch oven (and I suppose an engine block, indirectly). I can't wait for when I get to use them for camping or for something on the grill/ fire pit :)

this week,it was more food stuff, more water and I managed to salvage a cast iron pot from the recycle place we have where I live, now I have two pots, one large and one smaller :)

I rescue a lot of cast iron cookware. Can you describe what you mean that your cast did not turn out nicely? Unless the metal is pitted from bad rust or if it's from a foreign country and poor quality most cast iron is easy to bring back into great condition.

Basically I wasn't hearing it up enough, I was only bringing it up to about 400 degrees when the smokin point of the oil I was using was around 425 or 450. I recognized this and after using higher heat they turned out nicely. Before it looked like the oil was browned on to it, but with the heat adjustment they had the good glossy black look to em
