My knifes include a
Cold Steel Voyager Tanto,
Blade Tech Hunter Lite
CRTKT Sting ( my suit carry for cities)

I also keep a
Bird Tern UK legal non locking folder
Spyderco Meerkat
Blade Tech Mouse Lite

My work blade is an AK74 Bayonet

I love my AK bayonet mine is one of the later patterns clip point, carbon steel blade, it came with a chisel blade edge but I reprofiled it to a 22 degree v edge some years ago, its utterly reliable, heavy duty, holds its edge very well. its one of the cheapest work knives I have ever had, yet its probably one of the best.
its got a saw back on the spine of the blade thats perhaps ok for hacking course materials but thats about it. Its got a 6 inch blade about 4 mm thick, comes with quite an effective wire cutter sheath. Like the rifle it is simple, functional and reliable and just goes on and on.

WOW! I just happened to stumbled across this picture while reading the posts here and I forgot that I posted this picture. Now going on almost two years later I can't believe how much my Knife/Blade inventory has grown, changed, and evolved in that short period of time. My collection has evolved in so many different ways as I learned over time, I went from looking for knives in places like Walmart and Dicks (NO PUN INTENDED) to finding the more high end production knives like Esee, FallKniven, Busse, Survive Knives, etc. Also the more custom hand made knives like Battle Horse Knives (currently waiting on a custom Pathfinder PLSK-1 from Battle Horse Knives) O1 tool steel with a saber grind, black bead blasted micarta scales with black liners and a custom kydex and leather backed sheath. I must say that the customer service at BHK is 5 stars! I had the pleasure to deal with Brook and she was very nice and patient with me being indecisive on the way I wanted my knife made, but we got it done! I will get my knives together and post some pics of my current collection to show how much it has grown.

Welcome to blade addiction!!!! I'm so glad to hear your knife evolution. Those are some good brands you listed and battle horse is a great custom knife maker!! Congrats!!

I am still working on getting mine, but my blade of choice for almost anything from whittling, to skinning a fish, to even offing someone (should that ever become neccessary) is a Gerber Air Ranger.

For a multitool, since I intend on being in some heavily wooded areas, I would use the Victorinox Swiss Army Camper. It's at a decent price, but is more than capable of doing the job.

For long distance fighting, I would probably have a few throwing knives on hand. They may be considered illegal in some states, but when shit hits the fan, the law is NOT going to be properly enforced because nobody is going to be able to. The only exceptions is Martial Law, in which case, the enforcers ARE THE ENEMY, in which case, I will use whatever weapons I want, whether it be throwing knives, a sword cane, or even a battle axe!!!

Gerber won't tell us what kind of steel they use to make their knifes. And their quality control is for S#!*..... However I hope that that knife works for you when you need it.

Cold Steel, Ontario, Spyderco make good blades and the prices are generally within reason though Spyderco can tip the scale a little too much.

My current favorites are Cold Steel and Ontario, I'm really starting to love some of Condor blades for the money it is hard to beat. Gerber lost it's mojo years ago, the only thing I get from Gerber anymore is the multi function tools, I'm not a fan of stainless steel for working knifes.

I know that for a multitool, I'm considering getting the Leatherman Wave. For a run of the mill pocket knife though, I'm still doing my research. I know that the Gerber Air Ranger is a discontinued model, due to it being older, and from my research on it, it's actually a pretty decent blade. However, I'm trying to see if I can potentially do any better.

Leatherman's are good we have a good number of them, we go to their manufacturing facility every now and then since it is right across the river not too far from Gerber, Gerber facility seems to be locked up every time we are that way.

I'm partial to Gerber Multi plier and their one handed opening trick, I have two one with a blunt nose plier the other with a needle point plier, I've nothing but praise for them once that is you have slightly loosened the tool pivots and given the blade a decent edge.

Quality wise over the years I have been given two Leathermen waves but to this day I have never been able to use them properly as the fold away tools are fastened in so tight you need another multi tool to pry them open.

For me personally this raises the issue of operational serviceability, The Gerbers can be stripped down for cleaning, sharpening and mtce with only a couple of commonly available allen keys. But other makes like Leatherman require you use hard to obtain Torx plus security bits to disassemble them, that's why I prefer the Gerbers. No military dude serving or veteran likes to have to find special tools to disassemble their kit for cleaning.

Worst knives I have ever owned are the Benchmade Griptilian I would never aguin waste my money on a knife with such a stupid lock mechanism that clogs so easily when skinning rabbits or gutting fish, they made be fine for city slickers but they don't like fur n scales or dry blood n guts in the mechanism.

The pin or pivot lock is tough but not really designed for those kinds of uses for sure. I'm not a big fan of single purpose knifes anyway so I agree with you on the griptilian. Gerbers multi-tools are ok. But they use a tool grade steel for those. Their knifes are complete hit or miss so that means you can't trust them. I can pull a cold steel knife out of the box and do amazingly brutal things to the blade and 99.9 percent of them will handle it no problem. Not so with gerber or buck or even most kershaw knives. Condor is a great brand as well. Tops is great just a bit pricy.
