Well, folks could always leave the country through other means too (walking, driving, boat, etc.).
A travel ban would have to coordinate all of these to be effective. Also, it really affects a nation's ability to function economically.

For all these reasons, if they simply allowed the quicker tests at the airports, they could nip the problem in the bud, right there, without a lot of inconvenience, and without disrupting commerce, while also ensuring people don't try and circumvent the measures.

and if people wan't to leave we all now they will..agree with Gazrok about the tests

This "self quarantine" idea is the weakest thing I've ever seen. Because NOBODY is going to follow it. Or at least the vast majority aren't. (I would, as it would be a nice little vacation!....as long as work paid me for it).

Ebola will not disperse.............. will be quickly quarantined in this country.......and eliminated......as in Africa for years........... " test run " ............. just like the "Boston Marathon " bombing..................but of course..........I'm a paranoid conspiracy simpleton .

better to alive and a little paranoid than dead ;)

It's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you.....

So, now the plan is that flights from affected countries must land at airports with enhanced security for this.

So, what about those who had connecting flights, so are now technically coming from Frankfurt or London, etc.?
I'm doubting most would be doing a direct flight from West Africa to the US. When we used to fly to the Middle East, it was typically Tampa to New York, New York to London, London to Riyadh (if we were lucky, or often it was London to Frankfurt, then to Riyadh).

it's gonna be a hard time to keep track of all those who take a connecting flight...and if you don't connect your tickets and fly from west Africka to Frankfurt first and with a separate set of tickets Fra-NY,in the bookingsystem you show up as "person who comes only from Franfurt to NY"..no flights from Africa..

It will most likely pop up in several large countries, but it's really no hazard. It's only transmittable through bodily fluids- KEY WORDS: BODILY FLUIDS.
As long as you don't have a Liberian taxi driver spitting into your mouth, you should be fine.

but,do remember, these nasty things has a way of evolving...cross species..air bourne..if mother nature want to kill us, mother nature will find a way.. our chace is trying to out smart mother nature, which is pretty darn difficult

Here is the rate of infection that a few folks came up with it pretty much is about as accurate as the real numbers. I have been watching this for months, and usually the ROI is very close to what the WHO is telling us for numbers. I would say we have 6 months to a year before it gets real bad. Plenty of time to stock up.

A quick heads up guys. Looks like some folks may be doing their Ebola shopping already for that just in case scenario. The young man at the cash register at food lion told me I must be Ebola shopping like others were this week because they are stocking up. However I was just doing my monthly Shopping unlike others I buy once a month. I hope to bring that down later on to once every 2 months. I did however stock up on canned vegetables (Big time).

There's a problem with the travel ban solution though.

Here's the scenario. I'm flying out of Nigeria to the US. Now, the US says I cannot.
So, what do I do? Easy. I fly to some other nation that will allow me in. THEN, I get a plane from THERE into the US as a completely separate ticket.
Funny you should use Nigeria as an example. Nigeria did have an outbreak caused by an airlines passenger from Liberia, Patrick Sawyer. Nineteen Nigerians were infected either directly or indirectly by Sawyer. Arik Air (Nigerian airlines) suspended flights to Sierra Leone and the people infected were isolated. Nigeria ramped up security at all points of entry into the country.

The Ebola outbreak was stopped and Nigeria has now been declared "Ebola Free" by the World Health Organization...

That localized, a travel ban would certainly work, but problem is, many coming from there to here would have connecting flights. That's the weak link in the chain.

Ebola patient in New York now.

"Gee, I've been treating all these folks with Ebola, so where should I go now? I know, one of the most populated and important cities on the planet!" Is there no end to the supply of irresponsible Ebola healthcare practitioners? Seriously? (at least the hospital didn't send him home with antibiotics).

By the way, all of Obama's enhanced measures? Like I said before....would have TOTALLY missed this guy. They are POINTLESS.

The ONLY way to stop this is to allow the 15 minute tests to be used, and make them MANDATORY for all passengers leaving affected nations (before they LEAVE). That way, you'll know whether they are infected, before being symptomatic, then getting here and showing symptoms (and spreading it).

Dumb, dumb, dumb, and their stupidity is going to kill more and more.....

yeah it is pretty ignorant for them to continue to allow people from these infected countries to continue to enter other
countries

Unfortunately, a travel ban would only make it harder to track folks. If they want to leave and travel, they will find some ways to do so, that won't go through Ebola check procedures. A ban would also stifle business for a few exceptions. I don't favor a ban, just quick testing.

If they tested folks at the point of departure, they could allow uninfected folks to travel on their merry way, preserving commerce and business, while also safeguarding the rest of the world.

honestly,I wouldn't mind at all if I had to take taht quick test..it would make me feel alot more safe..

Exactly, and the test already exists, just not the permission to use it.
