Im working on building a trailer to pull behind my Atv. I want it to be the same width as my atv and ready for any terrain. I have a pretty good idea of what i want it to be but i would like to hear other ideas.

Is there a special kind of joint you can get, for the hitch, that would allow the ATV and trailer to better traverse terrain? That link seems like it would be the weak point of the whole deal. Would have to pivot or something as the ATV and trailer could be at radically different angles when going over rough terrain.

good points about pivoting and different angles..

somohick..what will it be used for? hauling whats needed only?will you be sleeping in it as well, while going from point A to point B? and it looks like the axle and all is stationary. so you might want to look into a suspension system for it...

might be a stupid idea, but springlefs would be my choice to fix the suspension

There is a hitch that swivels 360° that I will either build or purchase. The trailer will be dual purpose. I go on a few 200 + mile rides and it will haul a cooler, extra fuel and camping gear for those trips. And in a bug out situation it will haul what I need to my location when my truck becomes to large to fit. The axle I have has leaf springs and will have the same wheels/tires as my ATV.

By the way the trailer pictured is one I found on Google. Just for reference

right now I would love to roam around a scrap yard..could use an old propane bottle, have it all figured out in my head how to make a fireplace from it..
scrap yards are sometimes goldmines ;)

Part of my milking staunch was built using old wrought iron gates turned sideways found in a scrapyard. Even found a discarded insulated building that we turned into a smokehouse. It is amazing what you can find to use in those kinds of places and at a good price.

aaah, now it gets so technical in terminology I have to resort to a dictionary..a technical one...

I will be building a swivel similar to this. Im going to try to stay away from the pintle hitch. I dont like the way they pull. I have a 18 foot pintle hitch trailer that i will be putting a ball hitch on this winter.

I had a coupler (ball) hitch on my quad, it didn't work out good going over some rough terrain, reason I gone with the pintle, I also had to shorten the tong on the trailer had problems on narrow rolling ditches and hills.

Well thanks for the info. I might end up saying to myself i should have listen to you.
