Great info Mav . I have a huge pine stump on the corner of my property that I'm going to dig and split for wax wood as fire starters . Also have a big Ceadar in a fence row I need to cut that will be good for all kinds of pioneer projects .

no rain for a whole week, think it's time to go foragin the local woods for something I can use for tinder tomorrow

that's what I hope..I'm keeping my eyes open for birch bark..

it took awhile to find birch trees that had fallen, but the weather was nice..so now I have birchbark, made some rolls of it and it's drying in the sun, those rolls will be filled with tinder and hopefully will help me with the fire issue

i just took a old cigarette case i haven't used in years.and put 1 box of waterproof matches,2 books of non water proof matches and 1 scripto lighter into it..they'll be kept in the van, just in case their needed for some emergency situation...also have 3 more boxes of water proof matches,1 bic1 box of non waterproof matches, and 9 matchbooks..in which they'll be kept in with my camping gear untill i start fixing up my ghb/bob..i need to start on the char..but wont do that untill i replace some old t-shirts and socks with some new ones
