Going to be 96° 3 days next week. Every day in the 90s. Too bad I have to take mom to the doctor 2 days.

I am picking up my new garden fencing on Monday. We are officially in a drought so there is no way i can get poles into the ground without rain.

It got up to 36 here today Robin. Now it's snowing and the wind is picking up. We're supposed to have snow for the next 3 or 4 days and temps down to the mid 20's.
Tomorrow I'll go out and pick the rest of the apples.
Our ground is hard as a rock right now too, so I'm using a pick to dig the holes for the wood shed and the cabin extension. Usually if I can pick down a foot or so I can dig the rest of the hole with the auger on the tractor.

I have to say that I could never live there. Our short Winter drives me crazy.

I will be the family for a white Christmas though.
I got caught off guard with this early snow. I need to get the wood shed built as soon as I can and get the firewood under cover. Plus I'm building a small structure to house the generator at the pump house. At least I got the outside hay covered.
I think we'll have a 99.9% chance of a white Christmas here.

Started the container clean up today. I store the pots on the backside of the wrap around porch. Before could get them all on porch, the chickens we taking dirt baths. They have been known to lay an egg or two in the pots too. Input the saucers on top of the dirt this year. Maybe it will help keep them out.

Well I am finally getting back into things once again now that I have extra time on my hands. Yesterday I tilled up 8 rows to be planted with fall crops, even though I am a little late this year. I planted Arugula, cabbage, carrots, mustard greens, collard greens, radishes, and beets. Then we made a run to town for feed so I picked up some 6 packs of Chinese cabbage, red cabbage, broccoli and Brussel sprouts. Tilled up another bed this morning to get those in the ground. Then cut up 3 jalapeno plants and 2 tobasco to over winter. Rains are coming tomorrow with a cold front.

Normally I would have a full garden of summer plants still, mainly dry beans. Right now I look out my window and just see an empty brown garden mostly along with brown tomato plant branches still with cages and stakes. I'm ready to get to see some green out there again. I missed out doing my fall garden last year and honestly didn't expect to put one in this year either. I'm glad life is getting back to normal, but I do still miss Granny. We went to pick up her ashes yesterday, which was the main reason for the town run. She now sits on my fireplace mantle along with her American flag that was on her coffin for her WWII service. Eventually she will get buried inbetween her two husband's but we will keep a small amount of ashes that will continue to sit on our mantle.

Just dug the last radishes from the winter garden. They are good in salads .
Stirred the compost pile . Just a few weeks away from spreading the compost and tilling for this springs planting . Im going to till a separate area for next winters garden and going all out for it . Last thing left in it this winter is cabbage .

I'm going to start my tomato seeds soon. This year, I have to contend with the kittens knocking over all the plants.

My chickens keep the weeds under control until I can till. I'm going to add more sand to each hole or row . I always do, but this year I'm going for more. I have clay soil and after 20 years, its better. I have the new fence up, but haven't stretched and fastened it.

All this is contingent on this rain ever stopping. It's pouring here. Tonight storms and maybe a tornado or two.

Yes going to storm and then temperatures drop below freezing . Im thinking We will have a early spring so Im planning on setting out some plants mid March then planting seeds in April .

I still have carrots, onions and some beets, oh and collards. I haven’t even begun to think about planting for spring but better start soon. I agree it will likely be an early spring and hot summer. I need a new cover for the greenhouse. I’m wanting something that will let the rain through but still be white for reflecting some of the sun.

With this warm weather the last couple of days (high 70s) I started worrying about bugs getting to my collards, so I dusted them with diatomaceos earth. I've only picked enough so far for a couple of meals, but I'm hoping to get some growth from the warm weather and sun and be able to pick another mess in a couple of days. Friday night will be down in the low 30s so they should be good and sweet Saturday. Can't wait! They have had PLENTY of water, LOL.
