The caltrops are very easy to make. Take two 9 penny nails ( about 2 inches long) bend then in a 90 degree angle. Grind points (can be hand filed but a lot of labor). Cross the two nails across each other and then attach ( I braze them but they can be soldered, welded, supper glued, wired , etc.) them together. Now, no matter which way you drop them, one point will always be pointed up.

Of course this was all in fun, for research only.
:D

you can buy calrops of various sizes cheaper than you can ever make them - and you're better off making conduit punji sticks while you have power >>> you can cut & sharpen a crapload in an hour ....

while you're making the punji sticks make some DIY vehicle stop strips - conveyor belting and the hollow sharpened conduit sticking thru and you're ready to roll it out ....

Some of the best caltrops I have seen were 3 1/4" steel rods welded in together in a bundle with the last 3" bent out and very sharp . So you had a device about 6" long with 3"spikes sticking up however it landed . Also painted od green . A Vietnam Veteran showed Me these .
