I got the first load of hay home yesterday. I managed to get the trailer turned around in front of the barn but could only back up within 8 feet of the door, too steep. I wasn't feeling well enough to start unloading so there it sits. Today I went down south to look at some hay handling equipment and got pretty sick on the way down. I stopped at the river to cool off and that seemed to help some.
I'll get the trailer unloaded tomorrow and pick up another load on Friday. I found a ranch hand from one of the area ranches that can help on the weekends. If I'm lucky I may only have to put one load in the barn by myself. That'll work until I buy a new hay handler for my tractor.

Get yourself checked out Arctic. Blood pressure , glucose and lipids tested.

Got home yesterday with another load of hay and it was 86 degs when I got home. It was 100 degs coming through town. These are August temperatures. It's supposed to get back down to the 70's next week but still no rain in sight.
I parked my truck and trailer in front of the barn to unload later and went to turn the AC on in the cabin. When I looked outside my truck was gone. Apparently the truck came out of gear and started rolling down hill and through some trees. A corner of trailer hit a mound of dirt that had come out of the house foundation and stopped. Another 2 feet to the left and the truck/trailer would have gone through the fence with nothing to stop it for over a quarter mile or more.
Lesson learned; always chock your wheels when parked on any kind of slope! I knew better, but I was hot, tired and sick. I just have some broken lights to show for my oversight.

I'd have a heart attack if my vehicle ran away from me. I'm glad it wasn't any worse!

The Wife is heading back home Wed, time for me to get things done here.

For California, throughout the number of meeting they are not seeing and escalation of major events and the EQ around Coso volcanic field are unremarkable plus no detection of magma movement and the news stories regarding YVO (yellowstone) are unrelated to the California EQ again, YVO is unremarkable.

And she has a few choice words for the DailyMail (UK) "when interviewing, please interview a real Geologist that's working on the project not someone claiming to be a seismologist working amongst the team because we had no clue who he was nor what the xxxx he was talking about" and she followed that with "when we say (real geologist) we don't know don't go reading more into that [we don't know] it doesn't mean bad and it doesn't mean good" Cranky

Anyway, I hope she is in a better mood when she gets home.....

I rank the daily mail and enquirer about equally on the bullshit scale.

I bought Some more freeze dried #10cans today. Pancake mix, buscit mix, blueberry muffins, cornbread mix, bread/scone/&roll mix, and 6 cans of soups, potato, vegetable, chili, broccoli, chicken and vegetable beef. When I realized I wasn’t going thru my regular canned goods fast enough and most were either expiring or near the expiration dates I decided to start collecting #10 cans of freeze dried stuff. I figure I might have 15yrs left in life, with only ten of those where I’m remembering where I am and not drooling on myself. So my reasoning is the freeze dried stuff lasts 25 yrs. I’m covered easily with nothing ever going out of date now. Now, honestly, I’ve never tried any of these items, which I have a pretty good and varied collection of now. I have read that they are the closest to fresh food that you can put away, and taste the best. Here is to hoping I never have to find out! I still feel good knowing that my kids may be able to use these things to help them through tough times in the future. One of my sisters laughs at me for never even trying any of them yet, but honestly I don’t want to break the seal on a #10 can as once you do you’re kind of obligated to eat it all in a reasonable amount of time then. I am told the breakfast egg scramble mix is really good and might actually try one one day.

My siblings tried some of the freeze-dried foods and they said it was actually okay. I just figure that once I get to the point where it's what I have to eat, that it won't matter whether it tastes great or not. I'll eat what I have to so I won't starve.

Kind of my take on it too. If there’s nothing else to eat I bet they taste like heaven! Heck, I might even learn to like turnips and kale...

Took delivery of another 50# of white wheat. Have the buckets and lids ready. Waiting for the Mylar bags and absorbers to arrive on Thurs.

Paid off the mortgage on the farm 2 weeks ago so I have more money for repairs and preps going forward.
That's great to have the mortgage paid off!

It’s what I’ve been waiting to do for 15 long years!
Now you’re free to use your money to get ahead instead of helping a bank get ahead. We’ve had a lot of talk about how bad debt is. I know it is a lot easier to get in it than to get out of it! It really is nice to keep what you make.

We've talked about debt here on this site many times, but I don't think the importance of living debt free has really been covered that much.
When it comes to discussing debt, many people leave out mortages on homes and property. They feel that they'll never pay off their home mortgage anyway. Sadly I know people who are older than I am who are still making a mortgage payment, and in some cases a car payment.
Many people, including some in my own family, get close to, or have paid off their home, who have fallen for the Home Equity loan trap. So now they're back in debt again.
As Brent said above, it's much easier to get in to debt than it is to get out. I was brought up in the days where it was common to hear things like "live within your means", debt was bad, save for your future, because no one else will, and if you can't afford it, do without.

Wish people still heard that kind of advice. Now it’s more like, you deserve that new car....

Now days we're bombarded 24/7 with ads on buying crap that we don't need, between the drug ads anyway. Most of the shows that pass for entertainment now days never show anyone that actually works for a living, but yet they have everything.

Speaking of blowing money needlessly, my wife decided that we needed a vacation. So she booked a trip to Hawaii...with her sister, brother, bil and their teenage daughters. I've been to Hawaii before and found it the be overrated and expensive. I guess she rented a nice house on the beach in Maui. At least it has a swimming pool. I can just hang out at the pool smoking cigars, drinking Scotch and sleeping until it's time to leave.

How young of a cigar and how old of a scotch?
