With a couple solar panels and a charger that’s allready a good start to an off grid system. I hope they come up with a longer life battery sometime soon, I’d start building something right away.
Brent, Sears has a DieHard Advanced Gold AGM marine/RV battery on sale right now. It's I think about a 92 amp hour battery, for 138 bucks. The Q&A says it's a 105 amp hour, but one of the reviewers said the battery says "92 amp hours". They both could be right because amp hour ratings are based on the time of discharge, and marine batteries use a different rating than car batteries.

It's an online only sale so you have to buy it online for in-store pickup. If we still had a Sears here I'd pick up one today...but the nearest Sears is north of Atlanta, and the cost of driving up there cancels out the savings for me. You might be close enough...

I couldn't find "AGM" in the description, but if you look at the picture of the battery, it says "Genuine AGM" under where it says "Advanced". This line of batteries are all AGM.

It does say "Exchange price" but the last time I bought a battery at Sears for an inverter (when we still HAD a Sears :( ) they waived the core charge when I told them what it was for.

Here is the battery:

Thanks doc. Is that a regular sears or their clearance outlet your talking about north of Atl? I saw free shipping on that link with min purchase, but batteries often don’t due to weight and hazmat. Even though the price is pretty good I’m more interested in deep cell for solar use. I got sidetracked with the well install here but am still planing to install a solar system here before too long. A couple of these would probably work well with the camper though.

Today is newest grandbaby's shower. From her Nana and Pops she will get a crocheted blanket, octopus , quilt and a basket of goodies. . . Clothes, wipes, diapers, binkies, and other do dads. Since she is a preemie, the crocheted octopus is supposed to help remind her of her mommy's umbilical cord. We'll see but I know a couple ladies that rave about how much they helped while in the NICU. The shower starts at 1 but will have to leave here at 9:30 to pick up granny and then son 2s house for that DI L and granddaughters, then over to son 1s. Oh happy day! I do really hate being away from home and driving in the rain. Especially once we got the heavy traffic. Today is not really a prep for me, but for my sweet granddaughter. :) I do wonder if I'll be treating this one different. The other two, well I throw up in the air, twirl around and flip them. The newest is just so tiny. . . Hopefully as she gets bigger, but right now I just want to love and hold close. Yes, I jumped at the chance when we were told we could finally hold her!

Regular Sears I guess.

The pearl nix store is only like 30 miles from me. The outlet/clearance place is in Atlanta about 90 miles. I think I will stop in the Gainesville store. Still really sad to see this brand go from the number one to struggling so. They have hung on for a long while but retail has been completely changed by amazon and the internet.

You telling me that the company that was once synonymous with mail order catalogs couldn't figure out how to transition to Internet based sales? POPPYCOCK!

Sears lost its soul a number of years back when they decided they wanted to be more of a clothing store than a real department store. First they got rid of sporting goods, then they gutted their hardware department. It's been a slow motion train wreck ever since. I remember once upon a time when I would go to the Sears hardware department just to drool over tools.

I wasn’t aware of the one in kennesaw. That’s where my jeep is at a shop right now for a clutch and a couple other things. I was hard pressed to find a mechanic that not only would work on it but has experience with them. Should have just bought an American jeep.... I just had to order additional parts that will not arrive till next Friday and have to take them to him then too.

Me too. I got disappointed with them when they changed their warranty and started replacing their hand tools with reconditioned ones vs new as they had advertised.

Wasn't Sears bought by Kmart? I remember when Sears started going down hill was about the time they started their campaign for "The softer side of Sears". And focused more on trying to lure in the female shopper and less focus on tools and the male shopper. Their sprial down hill was long before Amazon.

Their sprial down hill was long before Amazon.
The downward spiral actually began in the 1970s when the went PC and stopped selling guns. By the year 2000 they were beyond the point of no return. Amazon was still mainly just an online book store and posed no threat at that time.

My son worked at KMart a number of years ago. He told Sears would be bankrupt if not for KMart, which puzzled me. I seriously don't understand how KMart made any money. Their parking lot was always nearly empty.

For years I'd only buy Chraftsman tools from Sears. But now days many Craftsman tools are made in China. I think most, if not all, Craftsman power tools are made in China.
Had not realized that. . . We always bought Craftsman too because of their warranty and I thought American made. It has been a few years since buying any though. It was the only place I could find a 2" wrench to replace the one hunny carries around in his pocket.

They were made in the US, a long time ago. Their quality started dropping in the 80’s, bit by bit. Now none of them are made here. I will still buy the old wrenches and stuff at garage sales but they are getting rare now. I believe kenmore is gone now too. It was a top brand for a long time. Sad.
I was suprised when Kmart bought them too. The local Kmart here was a ghost town most of the time and finally closed. Who knew they had any money? I agree that amazon was not the sole reason for sears decline, just one more thing that stacked against them.

The house kits were way back in thei mail order catalogs. Every board came pre cut and labeled. I don’t know how hard the directions were to follow, but at least they were written by English speaking people back then. Some of the kits were two story Victorian homes, pretty complex puzzle kits I’m guessing

Back where I grew up there was a big Victorian home just on the outskirts of town that was a Sears kit. I think it was built around 1890.

Sears, and Aladdin as well for kit homes. Nice bungalows!
