Hawking has been a brilliant misdirection for all of humanity. Hitler, Stalin, Marx, Hawking to a degree fits in the same realm. Yes, he's done a bit of good math early on, but he's done IMHO far more damage than good.

An example, he thinks the world will be destroyed within 200 years. He was a huge supporter of climate change. Deranged might be a better word. And yes, I think he now knows far more than he did yesterday, much to his detriment. Sad.

Stephen Hawking was the result of living in a theoretical world removed from reality. Not his fault really, it was just the hand he was dealt.

I saw a lot of that sort of thing in my former life as a academician (a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, LOL)

RIP

Regardless of what anyone thinks of his ideas and theories, he was an amazing man. I feel bad for those close to him who lost him.

Yeah, he did have some out there ideas, that seemed to defy his love of logic. It's odd really, but they were interesting.

Seriously, I doubt we're going anywhere, whether it's 200 or 1000 years, we'll be around. And of course, pretty sure most here think this whole man influenced climate change and global warming bit is utter nonsense.

I used to really wonder about his view on aliens. He was convinced we should have never reached out to the cosmos. That we were inviting our own destruction. Personally, I think he saw too many movies. All wars on Earth are fought for the same reason, control of resources. A civilization capable of interstellar travel has unlimited resources. So, it has no REASON to engage in warfare. There is nothing it can gain from it that it can't get without contest elsewhere. So, logically, it follows that any interstellar aliens will NOT be interested in war. (at least, if they think anything like we do).

I actually have (and have read) a few of his books. A Brief History of Time, The Grand Design, and one of the George's kids books (it's not the first one, I think like the 2nd or 3rd one...picked it up as a lark). I really liked the other two (the kids book is weird though).

I've read The Universe in a Nutshell, but don't own it (anymore). (well, I did own it, but somebody never returned it to me, and they are since long gone...so...nope, don't have it)... I thought this one actually did a better job of explaining things to we mere more normal humans.

I like Michio Kaku's books too, especially Physics of the Impossible.

Oh really? What exactly did he say?

Skeeter easily to look up, 100s of samples, these are a few samples;

‘we would know the mind of God’ is, we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God, which there isn’t. I’m an atheist.”

"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail," he said. "There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

"Some religious explanations are silly (such as myths about gods laying eggs that become the universe), therefore all religious explanations are silly.”

I'll leave at that, and stop being so damn sensitive.

You are jealous as hell of that man. Your hatred stemming from that jealousy is disgusting.

Hatred? Actually no, Those are his words not mine though I’m puzzled how I use Hawkins own words elate to hate, you ask a question and I answered it in his own words hmmm, your interpretation of hate is sure different than mine! I don’t hate anyone skeeter I have nothing against him just on many things he is wrong

Glad you know what I think! Jealously? I’m a little too old for such immature feelings and childish games. *sigh

It's true. Jealousy pretty much vanishes with age. It's a feeling for young people to have. We simply have no use for it.
