Hand held weapons?

I think the weirdest thing I ever used was a regular garden hose (old school, rubber hose with brass nozzle). I was much younger, but I remember a bully threatening my brother with a pretty good sized club (made from a branch as thick as a baseball bat).

With him being armed, I decided to level the playing field, and grabbed up a hose. At first he laughed. Until he was bleeding all over (from the metal tip) and black and blue from the hose itself. (I first used the hose like a whip to disarm him of the club). Like other bullies I'd bested (just a few) in the past, we actually became friends later on.
Thanks great idea going to fix a piece up today.

Among other "tools" I carry in my vehicles is a fish whacker. It's a club that looks like a small baseball bat with the end drilled out and filled with lead. A rubber hose filled with lead is effective too. Years ago I was on the receiving end of a lead hose. They do work!

In my car, I have a fish net fixer (pointy thing), metal pipe, sharp stick and a steak knife. Used to carry a hatchet, but gave it to my daughter.

Now I have my carry permit, so I also have my 9mm in my purse

"" Modified"" Northern Ireland gloves, They were standard issue leather military gloves issue to British troops, full five finger gloves, elasticated cuffs, large foam padded leather patch on the back of the hand to rest against walls to help aim better, we replaced the foam with lead shot. When you got punched with a fist covered with a modded NI glove you stay down.

i have read a lot of the posts within this thread. The question i propose is, why are you gonna bring a knife to a gun fight. I for one do not want to engage in hand to hand if i don't have to. I'm 51 and not getting any younger. I will not be having talks with people i encounter, nor will i be joining a community of other people and sharing food with other who didn't prepare. I will keep what is mine and will defend it with a hot ball of lead quicker than someone can get out the word Hello.

Thinking that a gun is the end all be all for self defense issues shows a serious lack of understanding of real survival skills. The gun is one very limited tool in the tool box. Please understand this is my subject of expertise. I teach this for a living. I’d rather have a knife within 10 to 15 feet than a gun. It doesn’t require reloads and it goes where I put it. With minimal training I can be deadly and accurate with a blade. Not so with a gun. Also you’re assuming no one will ambush or lay in wait for you. Ps. Look it up here. Bringing a gun to a knife fight is the mistake most people make. Not the other way around. There are several videos on here where people thought their gun would stop the knife wielder, it ends with the gun user dying or going to the hospital with serious injuries. Also I can show you lots of videos of gun users with big caliber guns using them in self defense then being beaten and having the gun they drew used against them. Just expand your idea of survival to include knifes and machetes and you can’t go wrong.

62 years old the idea of hand to hand is not pleasant at my age but I keep a billy club and a tomahawk in my truck, and I have several knives that I carry from time to time, one of the most effective knives for slashing is a utility knife the ones that use a razor blade ,,,the blades are cheap and can be bought at any hardware store they will make 1 inch deep wounds with ease leaving your attacker to bleed out after you make your exit

They certainly caused lots of hell on 9/11

I completely understand where you're coming from. i may of worded it wrong. I keep a Taser that has serrated edges that's heavy and about 16 inches long, plus a knife and a commemorative small size baseball bat all in my truck plus two guns. I would prefer not going toe to toe, but if i have to will knock their block off. I understand how people work from working for the past 6 years in prison. Even unprovoked, you never know what people will say or do. I'm always within arms reach from inmates, you learn to have eyes in the back of your head. I would never take chances without knowing my situation, but when the SHTF my wife and i are not going to be looking for others to group up with. We have other reason to survive that are a bit hard to explain to people who can't or won't understand. I know we will come out on the other side of things, it's just a matter of clawing our way through the muck

I prefer having both.knife and gun on me at all times.on account i never know if I'll walk into a knife fight.or a gun fight.pluss the attacker some times attack.when the intended victim is getting out of their vehicle. Thats where the ignition key comes in at.the key becomes a valuable self defense weapon when propetly held.and when needed.

The key is also valuable as it lets you drive away from the situation.... ;)

What's that saying? "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"

And have some bacon and biscuits too....

(in other words, don't limit yourself to just the common weapons folks think of).

Whenever I'm out at night, I always have a sturdy cane. Not because I need it to walk, but because it's a great way to legally carry around the equivalent of a baseball bat, without turning any heads, and the added bonus of any attacker drastically underestimating who they will be dealing with.

I've been having knee problems lately. I probably should carry a cane. One of these for example. It's called a "Bubba Stick" and they sell them in Love's Travel Stops. Should be a good noggin knocker.

O
Oh, my Gosh, my son has the very same cane. It's his Bat Masterson cane.

He takes it in the car and calls it his weapon.

For newbies, my son has special needs and is 26, and loves his Westerns

Cold Steel makes some great "combat ready" canes. Currently, I have a stout sturdy wooden one (which has a wizard's face elegantly carved into it), but I'd love to get one of these.

Funny tidbit, I'm mounting the tip of one of the Universal interactive wands from Harry Potter into it (to look like a gem in the wizard's hat)...so I'll actually be able to do the "spells" in the Harry Potter parks. I love messing with kids' minds and extending their belief in magic for as long as possible.

It's just fun.

For legal ramifications, I'd recommend against sword canes. I have a few, more for collecting, but actually using them could mean a lot more trouble than its worth.

a good fighting tomahawk is a nice to have thing. Personally, I'd want a distance weapon, even if it doesn't shoot. My arm reach isn't that great and I want to avoid contact whenever possible. All the hand to hand skills I know can never counter luck.

I have two cold steel tomahawks, They are pretty fun to throw if you hang up some cross cut pine discs. With some practice you can be pretty accurate and at say 5-10 yards they would be truly deadly.
