I'm curious, what those of us will do,if the shtf,
as we have a bunch of urban preppers here too.

how do you plan to make your home secure enough
to manage and survive??
as the urban enviroment can be kinda harsh and unforgiving..

I live in a suburban environment that is very close (about three miles) from an urban environment.

My first layer of defense is the gray man mentality. I'm pleasant, but distant from my neighbors. I don't get into religious, political, or other controversial conversations. I don't use bumper stickers, or put flags on my front lawn.

We have metal hurricane shutters, we have small, unobtrusive computer cameras that can be salted around the development, and we have guns.

A canal runs less than twelve feet from my back door, so I have water and food (assuming it doesn't get contaminated with dead bodies, raw sewage, and so on)

Our development is a gated community, and unobtrusive to begin with.

If we choose to relocate, there are rural areas less than 45 minutes from the house. We can become very mobile if we need to, and can relocate on a moments' notice if we have to.

a gated community sounds good, but will it be a target?

Still working on my plan we are a few miles from the large population but do have close neighbors. Current plan is to bug in close the curtains and maintain a concealed watch. If situation changes I have a temporary bug out location a fewmiles from my house that has no close neighbors that I can use in a pinch. Urban survival is tough lots of factors and unknowns but I do think sheltering in place for first few weeks if you can’t get out immediately is the best option for most situations and people.

My location is impossible to secure. The condo is in a nice area, but... the ones I would worry about live right here with me!

There are some Vietnamese who live downstairs who have their ducks in a row. We garden together, and they are completely preppers in all but name. They buy bulk, they have a HUGE community of relatives, friends, and ex-pats in the area. Some of the older guys seem like they would be nasty if the chips were down.

But the rest? Single older women, younger single moms, a couple drug dealers who think it's convenient to work right in the condo parking lot. A couple older guys, seem like alcoholics, and non functional (I like a beer, I'm not bad mouthing drinking. One of the guys is on his 9th DUI! Didn't even know that was possible.). I've never seen anyone else here carry a rifle case and range bag to the car to go out for a day of shooting.

No way me and the Wife and Daughter are out of here, I wouldn't even try to defend this place. Now, a bad storm, or something temporary? Yeah, I am stocked up for that. Anything else? Gone. Besides, this is an incredibly liberal, progressive college town and I am a rural, conservative guy. I have walked through marches and seen women dressed as vaginas holding signs and eyeballing me like they expect me to do something terrible, because I am white? and male? I guess. I felt less like the enemy walking around the Middle East.

No, this place will be fine without me. BOL here I come baby!
