first, you need shelter for your fire, if storms are even a remote possibility. Too much work is involved here, just to have snow, wind, rain, etc put out your flames. Then check out availability of fuel and other needs, like water.Yes, you can use a torch or coals to transfer a fire to another place, but if you can just go a bit further and start the fire where you need to be, you'll save risk and effort.
 
I prefer the old fashioned way :)

Thank you, Dalisa. I find those methods quite fascinating as a glimpse into what our ancestors did
