at harvest season, direct from the farmers, and they will be $10 a bushel, on average. You'll have to winnow them, they'll be dusty. A bushel is 55 lbs. Do the math. You'll need to eat about 3 lbs per day per adult, if you're just laying around, cause grain and legumes average only 600 calories per lb. include some local honey, some salt, Crisco, and powdered milk. Not more than $2 a day per adult. Need at least 6 month's worth and also need some non-hybrid seeds and knowledge about sprouting.

Crisco is not one of my high priorities, but then we render our lard from the pigs we slaughter. The others are nice to have on hand. Just not sure what the going price from farmers is though. We grow what we eat from seeds bought at the feed store and also ones that i save from previous harvest. Honey is a definite must as it is a good sweetener but also local honey helps with allergies and helps heal persistent wounds that do not heal with other antibiotic creams.

Honey also stores really well.
