the larger bikes are too heavy(ever dropped a big bike? I have, and their nigh on impossible to upright on your own) and too noisy for bugging out, what you want is something quiet-er and smaller that has good fuel consumption, wife used to have a Honda 70cc "stepthrough", it would do about 100 miles to the gallon, and she could carry a weeks shopping on it, okay top speed for someone my size was about 35mph, but if your bugging out you don't need a "road rocket"!!

that's pathetic if someone is using it for bugging out.

Paulie you don't know what I'm using. I've been riding since I was a kid. Smaller engine on a bike doesn't necessarily mean quieter engine.

Also that bike was designed to cover long distances, is quiet and is extremely reliable.

With that being said Id have no intention to cover entire country in unlikely shtf scenario on any vehicle unless I'm part of an large group. That wouldn't be wise.

I have also been riding for many years, probably more than you as I think i'm older than you.
bugging out wont necessarily be on nice long paved roads, its more likely to be off road on a dirty muddy track, a big heavy road burner isn't going to get very far.
a large group of big bikes is going to be seen and heard a long way off.
but then you and I will never agree, poles apart and all that.
you do it your way and i'll do it mine.

You just said it. Regardless in hypothetical unlikely SHTF scenario the primary (aside water, food) objective would be to remain undetected.

Traveling in any vehicle and you would stand out. If traveling in that environment it would only make sense to do so in large groups. Otherwise traveling long distances alone would not be recommended.

yes, apart from the "unlikely" bit I , for once, agree with you, bugging out for me would be the unlikely bit as I am as far out into the countryside as I can get-without winning the lottery-, any moving about would have to be quiet and undetected, depending on the survival rate of course. any kind of motor vehicle is likely to make some noise however small, in an environment which is quieter than normal-which is would be -no background noise apart from the birds and animals, any kind of motorised noise would be noticed.

in the city on foot is your best option ,you can not hide a moving car or ATV,,,,,,,,,but for those of us in the country and using a ATV for hunting and fishing, by staying off the roads you just might go unnoticed ,,,,they make some mighty quiet exhaust systems for those things

there are some interesting "mules" on the market these days, I think Kawasaki make some, there are others, sort of a small pick up type vehicle for use on farms.
the main thing will always be for me how long the fuel supplies last, I suppose we have to get done anything that needs a vehicle quickly post SHTF so that we don't need to shift whatever it is later by hand because fuel dosent exist any more.

In the unlikely SHTF scenario many would flock to the country. Your ATVS would leave tracks leading the "alleged savages" to ur man cave. Nothing screams "resources" like an ATV.

It would be much more difficult to track a vehicle in the city. Again I want to reiterate that I believe unless a member of large group...it's best to stay off vehicles in general.

I disagree that "many" would flee the cities for the countryside, especially in my country.
I have never agreed with the "golden horde" theory so beloved of fiction writers and J.W.Rawles, not in the UK anyway.
Even in WW2 the British didn't desert the cities and towns, sure some of the kids were evacuated, but most stayed put.

Rokon 2x2 ATV
Wide tires
Quiet 4 stroke 208cc engine (quieter than a Quad)
Light weight - 218 pounds
2,000 lb towing capacity
Hollow drum wheels that provide flotation when empty or can be used as spare fuel or water tanks.

Many people in cities have family and or property outside the city. Most are conditioned to be believe they need to leave big cities immediately.

If you think out of millions and millions of people none are going to make it by you...you've got another thing coming.

not here they haven't, and we aren't so conditioned.
do you really think someone who has paid a mortgage for 10,15 or 20 years is just going to up and walk away just because there is no food in the shops or no fuel at the filling station? sorry, Brits are made of sterner stuff, we have an aversion to anyone telling us what to do, it puts our backs up, just ask the EU!!:p

Those whom are desperate and unprepared will feel they have no other choice.

It's a numbers game. Inevitably there will be people whom would make it by you. Unless you are living in a desert or deserted island...there will be people.
