I've been away from media today. What are they saying is the cause? Cyber terror or natural?

Looks to me that it was just old infrastructure. One clip said we have 10 failures a day countrywide on average. Most are not this big, but it's just a matter of time. All I know is being in that kind of traffic, or in an elevator, or any tall building without opening windows or running water during even a 24 hr blackout would suck. Just another reason rural living makes more sense to me.

People rely way too much on the stuff to live everyday life. I hate it when the electric company calls in the middle of the night to say we are without power & then again to say it gets restored. Where was that phone call when we were without power for weeks after the hurricanes and we were without power for weeks? We were sitting outside around a campfire and noticed the security lights came back on. . . figured it must be back. Yeah its nice to have though.

Yes, one would think so. I've been surprised, though, by how many even among prepper circles underestimate the stupidity of angry, hungry people in large groups.

It won't take long once the lights go out for the cities to become third world.

Actually on the Brit news there was recently a decent sized piece about the US infrastructure and how dated and worn out much of it is, from bridges to water treatment systems, power distribution grids, etc and summed out by saying many parts of the US would see IMPROVEMENTS if it was up to third world standards because its so bad in places.

I can't agree more that most are much too dependent on electricity. Don't get me wrong, I love how easy it makes our lives, not to mention I own an electrical contracting company. I just think we all should have a way to function with the basics of life if we loose it. Being able to cook, stay warm, drink water safely, bathe and wash clothes are just some of the basics I'm talking about to make our lives safe and comfortable. If you don't have a backup plan to at least cover these things with no electricity then you should reevaluate your prepping plans.

A couple years ago we had a 3.5 day power outage. I miraculously survived. I'm amazed that everyone on my city block didnt instinctively turn savage and start looting like the people of Katrina I saw looping the news.
